Dig In Community Greengrocers are hiring a member of staff to support our new Saturday market selling fresh fruit and vegetables and dry goods at affordable prices. The stall will be situated at Govan Cross and run from 10am-2pm every Saturday, with the worker needed from 8:30-3:30.
Job Summary
The Community Food Market Worker plays a vital role in a new local food initiative by supporting market operations, engaging with community members, and promoting healthy eating habits. This paid part-time role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute meaningfully to local wellbeing in a dynamic and rewarding environment.
The market is a pilot as part of a research project with the University of Glasgow. We are currently funded to run for 6 months, but we will be seeking funding to continue the market project if it is successful. This is a sessional part-time role so as a freelancer you will receive a flat fee and be responsible for registering this income with HMRC and paying tax where necessary. This is the case with all employees at Dig In so if you require help with this we can offer support.
The role will include:
- Building the market stall and gazebos with the rest of the team.
- Unloading the produce from the van and displaying it for customers.
- Chatting with customers and answering questions about the produce and/or what they can do with it.
- Processing transactions by weighing and counting produce and totalling up customer shopping.
- Keeping the stall well-stocked and looking nice.
- Take-down and tidy up at the end of the trading time.
There may also be opportunities for cover shifts at the Dig In Shop during the week if you are interested.
You will be part of a team from Dig In and the University of Glasgow and there will be at least two other members of staff at each market helping with trading and carrying out research.
