MILL OPERATIVE – TIMBER MERCHANT
Our successful Ashton in Makerfield Branch is currently looking for a Mill Operative to join our manufacturing team.
This is a hands-on role supporting timber production and mill operations. The role will involve working with timber products, assisting with the safe operation of machinery, preparing materials, maintaining quality standards and supporting the wider manufacturing team.

Responsibilities
Duties are varied and will include:
- Assisting with day-to-day mill and timber production operations
- Operating machinery and equipment safely, once trained and authorised
- Preparing, moving and handling timber materials safely
- Cutting, processing and preparing timber products to required specifications
- Checking finished products for quality, accuracy and consistency
- Stacking, storing and organising timber safely and efficiently
- Loading and unloading materials as required
- Keeping the mill area clean, tidy and safe at all times
- Carrying out basic checks and reporting any machinery defects or safety concerns
- Following all health & safety procedures and company policies at all times
- Supporting the wider manufacturing and yard team with additional duties as required
What You’ll Need
- Previous experience in a timber mill, sawmill, manufacturing, warehouse or yard environment is preferred
- Experience working with timber products would be advantageous
- Good practical skills and confidence working in a hands-on environment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately
- Good understanding of safe working practices
- Reliable, proactive and able to work well as part of a team
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual work
Advantageous:
- Experience using timber machinery or production equipment
- FLT licence
- Previous timber merchant, builders merchant or manufacturing experience

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £31,616 per year (based on 47.5 hours per week)
Hours: 47.5 hours per week
Saturday Working: Saturdays worked on a rotational basis to meet business needs
Overtime: Additional hours worked beyond your contracted hours will be paid as overtime
Location: Ashton in Makerfield (in person)
Pay: £31,616.00 per year
