Purpose of the position
To lead the night picking belt so orders are completed safely, accurately and on time. The role also supports the Night Manager and Night Operations Manager and provides practical cover when either manager is away from the business.
Main responsibilities
· Lead the day-to-day running of the night picking belt and allocate employees to the right positions.
· Brief the team on workload, priorities and any important customer or product requirements.
· Monitor picking pace, order accuracy and product quality, carrying out spot checks where required.
· Coach pickers, new starters and agency employees and maintain clear standards of conduct and performance.
· Provide hands-on support during busy periods, late orders or employee shortages.
· Work closely with loading, stock, administration and transport teams to keep orders moving.
· Support the night managers, provide agreed cover when either is absent and complete a clear handover.
· Respond calmly to shift issues and maintain Health and Safety, food hygiene, housekeeping and security standards.
Person Specification
Essential
· Previous night-shift working experience.
· Previous team-leader or supervisory experience in a warehouse, distribution, manufacturing or similar operation.
· Experience of high-volume order picking, ideally using a picking belt or conveyor.
· Confident leading a team, allocating work and maintaining standards.
· Strong attention to detail, particularly around product quality and order accuracy.
· Calm and practical when plans change or problems arise.
· Basic computer literacy and confidence using scanners or warehouse systems.
· Able to work the Wednesday-to-Sunday night pattern in a chilled environment, typically 2°C to 5°C.
Desirable
· Experience in foodservice, fresh produce or chilled distribution.
· Food hygiene, Health and Safety, first-aid or forklift qualifications.
Pay: £35,000.00-£37,500.00 per year
