Minimum 30 hours per week | Permanent
Predominantly 7am–12pm | Shifts scheduled two weeks in advance
We are looking for a hands-on and dependable Food and Beverage Supervisor to join our team at the Durrant House Hotel in Bideford.
This is a great opportunity for someone with food and beverage or hospitality experience who enjoys being part of the operation, leading from the front and making sure guests receive a warm welcome and great service. With a predominantly morning working pattern, most shifts finishing at midday and rotas provided two weeks in advance, the role could particularly suit someone looking for more predictable hours in hospitality.
The role
As Food and Beverage Supervisor, you'll take the lead on our breakfast and lunch service, making sure the restaurant is ready on time, the team knows what they're doing and service runs smoothly from start to finish.
You'll work closely with our Food and Beverage Manager, Kitchen and Reception teams to understand hotel occupancy, coach and group arrangements and guest requirements, so that the team is prepared for the day ahead.
This is a practical, hands-on role. You'll be visible during service, supporting the team, responding to guests and stepping in wherever you're needed.
You'll also support dinner, bar and function services from time to time and provide planned cover when the Food and Beverage Manager is away.
What you'll be doing
- Leading breakfast and lunch service from preparation through to close-down
- Briefing the team and allocating duties so everyone knows what they need to do
- Keeping an eye on service flow, food availability and table turnaround and dealing with issues before they become problems
- Making sure guests receive friendly, efficient and attentive service
- Working closely with the Kitchen and Reception teams to plan for occupancy, coach groups and guest requirements
- Supporting and coaching colleagues during service
- Leading from the front and pitching in wherever needed, including laying and clearing tables, waiting on guests, resetting the restaurant and helping with other practical service tasks
- Helping to manage labour, stock and waste carefully
- Maintaining high standards of food safety, allergen awareness, cleanliness and health and safety
- Dealing confidently with routine guest requests and concerns
- Making sure the restaurant is left clean, organised and ready for the next service
- Supporting other food and beverage services, including dinner, bar and functions, when required
What we're looking for
You don't necessarily need to have held the title of Food and Beverage Supervisor before. We're interested in someone who has good hospitality experience and is ready to take responsibility for leading a service or shift.
You'll ideally have:
- Experience working in a busy hotel, restaurant, café or food and beverage environment
- Experience taking responsibility during a service or shift and organising the work of others
- Good food hygiene and allergen awareness
- Confidence dealing with guests and resolving day-to-day service issues
- Strong organisation and attention to detail
- A calm, practical approach when things get busy
- The confidence to give colleagues clear direction while remaining approachable and supportive
- A hands-on approach and willingness to lead from the front, pitching in with practical service tasks whenever needed
- Flexibility to provide cover and support across other food and beverage services when required
- A genuine commitment to providing a great guest experience
Previous supervisory experience, particularly within a hotel or high-volume breakfast operation, would be an advantage but isn't essential.
Hours of work
This role offers a minimum of 30 hours per week, with shifts predominantly worked 7am–12pm. Your shifts will be scheduled across Monday to Saturday and your rota will be provided two weeks in advance, so you'll know your working pattern ahead of time.
Some flexibility is required to support the needs of the hotel. When we're particularly busy, you may be scheduled to work through the lunch period until around 2pm. During the summer season, some shifts may start at 6am rather than 7am. There will also be occasions when Sunday or bank holiday working is required. These shifts will be included in your rota and you'll always receive two weeks' notice of your schedule.
Where a shift is long enough to require a break, this will include the appropriate unpaid break. Any hours worked above your minimum 30 hours will be paid at your normal hourly rate.
Working at Durrant House Hotel
Durrant House is a large hotel in Bideford welcoming a mix of private guests, coach groups, weddings, functions and events.
As a hotel operating throughout the week, flexibility is important, but we also want you to be able to plan ahead. That's why shift schedules are provided two weeks in advance.
If you're someone who enjoys being part of a busy operation, takes pride in getting the details right and likes helping a team deliver great service, we'd love to hear from you.
Pay: £13.00-£13.50 per hour
