Role Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and nurturing Baby Room Leader to join our lovely setting and friendly, approachable team at Wibli Wobli Nursery.
We provide a warm, nurturing environment within a modern, fully air-conditioned building, with exciting opportunities for children to enjoy Forest School and outdoor learning.
As Baby Room Leader, you will lead the baby room team to provide high-quality care, learning and experiences that support each child's individual development, wellbeing and interests.
You will lead by example, creating a calm, caring and engaging environment where babies feel secure, valued and confident to explore and learn.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, motivate and support the baby room team to provide consistently high standards of care and education.
- Organise daily routines, staff deployment and room operations effectively.
- Act as a positive role model, promoting professionalism, teamwork and a nurturing approach.
- Support and encourage colleagues through coaching, guidance and positive feedback.
- Build strong, positive relationships within the team and contribute to a friendly and supportive working environment.
- Work closely with the wider nursery team to ensure consistency and continuity of care.
Baby Care, Development & Learning
- Provide warm, responsive and nurturing care that meets each baby's individual needs.
- Plan and provide engaging, age-appropriate experiences that support babies' development through play, exploration and discovery.
- Follow children's individual interests and developmental stages when planning activities and experiences.
- Complete observations and assessments and identify appropriate next steps in children's learning and development.
- Support babies' emotional wellbeing, confidence, independence and secure attachments.
- Create a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment where every child can thrive.
- Encourage sensory, messy, creative and outdoor experiences appropriate to babies' developmental needs.
- Support smooth transitions and routines, including sleep, feeding, personal care and settling-in.
Partnership with Parents & Carers
- Develop warm, trusting and professional relationships with parents and carers.
- Communicate openly and positively with families about their child's day, development and wellbeing.
- Share observations, progress and achievements regularly.
- Work in partnership with parents to ensure continuity of care between home and nursery.
- Welcome parents' views and feedback and ensure they feel valued and involved.
Safeguarding, Health & Safety
- Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed at all times.
- Maintain accurate records, observations and documentation.
- Promote high standards of hygiene, health and safety within the baby room.
- Ensure the room meets relevant regulatory and nursery requirements.
- Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming and developmentally appropriate environment.
Person Specification
Essential
- Level 3 childcare qualification or above (Level 4 or Level 5 preferred).
- Minimum of two years experience working with babies and young children in an early years setting.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience within an early years environment.
- Strong knowledge of babies' development, attachment and early years practice.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A good understanding of safeguarding and children's welfare.
- Ability to lead and support a team effectively.
Desirable
- Welsh speaking or a willingness to learn.
- Experience supporting staff development and mentoring colleagues.
- Experience of child-led, sensory and outdoor learning approaches.
- Forest School experience or an interest in developing outdoor learning opportunities.
