The role:
AIS Marine are seeking a technically minded Business Development Manager, based in Plymouth with regular international travel, to drive strategic growth across our UK and Norwegian manufacturing operations by combining engineering expertise with commercial development.
The successful candidate will have a strong technical, engineering or design background to understand our manufacturing capabilities, products and customer applications, and will work closely with internal teams to identify and deliver new business opportunities, cross-selling and promoting the combined strengths of both manufacturing sites, while building strong customer relationships in this highly customer-facing role.
What will you do as our Marine Technical Business Development Manager:

Develop and execute business development strategies to support sustainable growth across the UK and Norwegian manufacturing facilities.

Identify and drive cross-selling opportunities by promoting the full range of manufacturing capabilities available across both sites.

Build strong relationships with existing customers, identifying opportunities to expand business through additional products, services and manufacturing solutions.

Generate new business opportunities through market research, networking, customer visits and industry events.

Work collaboratively with the sales, engineering, design and production teams to develop commercially attractive technical solutions for customers.

Gain a comprehensive understanding of company products, manufacturing processes and engineering capabilities to confidently present technical solutions.

Support the preparation of technical proposals, quotations and customer presentations.

Maintain regular communication with both UK and Norwegian teams to ensure alignment on business opportunities and customer requirements.

Monitor market trends, competitor activity and emerging technologies to identify future growth opportunities.

Represent the company professionally during customer meetings, exhibitions and international visits.

Maintain an active sales pipeline and provide regular reporting on opportunities, forecasts and business development activities.

Support the development of strategic partnerships and long-term customer relationships globally.
What are we looking for in our Marine Technical Business Development Manager:

Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience in Engineering, Manufacturing, Product Design or a related technical discipline.

Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand complex products and manufacturing processes.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and commercial audiences.

Ability to build strong internal and external relationships across international teams.

Self-motivated, organised and results driven.

Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally as required.
Desirable

Experience working across multiple manufacturing facilities or international organisations.

Knowledge of precision engineering, machining, fabrication, composites or advanced manufacturing.

Proven experience in business development, technical sales or account management within a manufacturing or engineering environment.

Commercial awareness with a proven track record of identifying and securing new business opportunities.

Experience working with global customers and OEMs.

Familiarity with CRM systems and sales pipeline management.
What are the benefits of being our Marine Technical Business Development Manager:

Annual salary of up to £45,000.00 per annum.

Discretionary annual bonus of up to 15% of basic salary.

Commission scheme - earn up to 85% of basic salary.
