About the role
Marwell Hotel is looking for a hands-on Maintenance Manager to take ownership of the hotel's maintenance, health & safety and compliance requirements.
This is a standalone role, so we are looking for someone who is practical, organised and comfortable getting stuck in. You will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the hotel, responding to issues quickly while also putting effective preventative maintenance routines in place.
The hotel is currently going through a period of transformation and refurbishment, making this an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to make a real difference and take ownership of the maintenance function.
What you'll be doing
- Take full responsibility for the hotel's day-to-day maintenance operation
- Respond to and resolve reactive maintenance issues across bedrooms, public areas, kitchens, bars, function spaces and back-of-house areas
- Carry out regular proactive and preventative maintenance to reduce breakdowns and improve the condition of the hotel
- Complete regular inspections of plant, equipment, rooms and public areas
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure jobs are followed through to completion
- Manage and prioritise maintenance requests according to urgency and guest impact
- Take ownership of health & safety across the property, working closely with the General Manager
- Support compliance with statutory inspections, testing and servicing requirements
- Coordinate external contractors and specialist engineers when required
- Obtain quotes and assist with managing maintenance expenditure
- Maintain appropriate records for servicing, inspections, repairs and compliance
- Identify potential issues before they become major problems
- Support the hotel refurbishment programme where required
- Work closely with the operational teams to minimise disruption to guests
- Ensure the hotel remains safe, functional and well maintained at all times
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who is practical first and managerial second. You will need to be comfortable picking up a toolbox and fixing things yourself rather than simply managing contractors.
You should have:
- Previous maintenance experience, ideally within a hotel, hospitality, leisure, care, residential or commercial property environment
- Strong practical and problem-solving skills
- Good knowledge of general building maintenance
- A good understanding of health & safety and compliance
- Experience dealing with contractors and external suppliers
- The ability to prioritise competing maintenance requirements
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills
- A proactive approach and an eye for detail
- The confidence to work independently and make decisions
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with all departments
Relevant qualifications in areas such as electrical, plumbing, heating, HVAC, building services, health & safety or facilities management would be advantageous.
What you'll get
- Full-time permanent position
- The opportunity to take genuine ownership of the hotel's maintenance function
- A key role in the hotel's ongoing transformation and refurbishment
- Staff benefits and hotel discounts
- A supportive senior management team
- The opportunity to make a visible difference to the hotel
The person
This role will suit someone who enjoys fixing problems, improving things and taking responsibility.
You won't be sitting behind a desk waiting for jobs to come in. You'll be walking the hotel, identifying issues, fixing problems, planning preventative maintenance and making sure the building is safe and operational.
If you're a hands-on maintenance professional who takes pride in the condition of a property and wants real ownership, we'd like to hear from you.
