Primary Role
The Assistant Project Manager plays a crucial role in our projects department, assisting with the delivery of events and supporting senior team members. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop project management skills in the dynamic world of live events, contributing to Sterling's reputation for technical artistry and exceptional experiences.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Work as part of the projects team, assisting with and overseeing smaller projects from initial enquiry to event completion
- Assist Project Managers and Directors with the delivery of larger scale projects and events
- Support the business in maintaining and developing key client relationships
- Attend client meetings and site visits
- Take clear and detailed client briefs and advise on appropriate technical solutions for events
- Develop creative ideas and designs for client events, including preparation of CAD plans (training provided if required)
- Specify suitable equipment, create quotations and proposals, and assist with budget management
- Update booking software with event progress and milestones
- Book and manage crew & resources, creating crew communication documents
- Liaise with performers, venues, and other third parties
- Prepare and manage health & safety documents and procedures
- Work on-site at venues across the UK and occasionally internationally
- Assist with hands-on rigging/de-rigging and operation of equipment if required (advantage but not essential)
- Educate clients and venues about Sterling's wide range of services
- Identify and develop new business opportunities
- Promote our products and services to generate new business
- Assist other departments and perform other duties as needed to meet business needs
- Travel for team meetings, site visits, and event execution as required
Qualifications and Key Attributes of the Candidate
- At least 3 years' experience in the professional live events industry
- Excellent understanding of technical event production with effective communication skills to explain technical solutions clearly and without jargon
- Enthusiasm for developing creative designs and ideas to exceed client expectations
- Curiosity to learn, resilience, and a can-do attitude
- Polished and professional manner, projecting confidence and enthusiasm to clients
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and react quickly and efficiently to tasks
- Highly organized and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple projects, deliverables, and stakeholders simultaneously
- Ability to lead by example and work effectively as part of a team
- Customer-focused mindset balanced with commercial awareness
- Keen eye for detail and high standards of presentation
- Full UK Driving Licence and own transport

Working Hours
If you have the experience we are looking for then you will already know that this is not a 9 ‘til 5 job. Due to the nature of our industry, we require our employees to have a flexible approach to their working hours. Weekend work may be required.
Pay: From £35,000.00 per year
