A role is required for the busy 6 day a week coffee shop located in the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath, operated by the League of Friends. The shop provides a wide range of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, sweets and cakes and a selection of light, hot food; staffed by a management team and loyal volunteers. The Coffeeshop Supervisor is an hands-on role providing an excellent opportunity to combine working in a welcoming commercial and busy, friendly team; raising revenue to supplement services and facilities for the welfare and comfort of the hospital’s staff and patients.
This role includes serving over-the-counter food and beverages, ensuring displays and vending machines are fully stocked, customer areas are clean and tidy and generally assisting management in the efficient and cost-effective running of the coffee shop. The ideal candidate will have experience in the retail catering sector providing customer care, understanding people’s needs and have a calm and systematic approach.
Job description
DUTIES - over 5 days per week.
· Assist management the smooth profitable operation of the Coffee Shop, open 6 days a week on a shift basis. Weekend work is therefore required on a rotation basis.
· Assist management and volunteers on a daily basis. Some flexibility of working hours may be necessary to cover when management and volunteers may be off due to holidays or sickness.
· Serving hot and cold food and beverages to customers, ensuring seating areas and tables are clean and tidy and maintaining stock levels in display units are maintained.
· Maintain clean work areas and high standards of food hygiene and observing the Hospital Trust’s health and safety requirements at all times.
· Ensure the out-of-hours vending machines are fully operational and stocked on a daily basis.
· Assist management in establishing and monitoring prices for all products.
· Help implementing policies from the Safer Food Better Business pack, as indicated by management.
· Make recommendations to management regarding new products and equipment.
· Report accidents in compliance with the NHS Trust Health and Safety policies.
CUSTOMER LIAISON
· Promote the work and services of the League of Friends in the local community.
· Develop and maintain good working relationships with customers, volunteers, hospital staff and suppliers.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
· Customer Care – a responsive, professional and caring attitude to customers is essential, with excellent communication and customer service skills. Experience of working in the voluntary sector is desirable.
· Food Hygiene and Service - a high standard of cleanliness is required and an appropriate certificate is required. Experience in the catering industry is essential, including ordering of food and beverages and stock control, to provide a high quality of service.
· Numerate and Literate – accurate mental arithmetic calculations and processing, using EFT machines, also proficiency in cash handling is essential.
