Hours of Work: Part time, Day time 10:30am – 4:30pm, 30 hours/week, 35 weeks term time only plus an extra week for training and some additional hours

Purpose of Job/Key objectives
We are seeking a General Catering and Housekeeping Assistant with a positive and enthusiastic approach to join our friendly housekeeping and catering team. You will undertake general duties within the School’s catering and housekeeping department, and previous experience of working in a similar environment is essential. A minimum of a Level 2 Food Health and Safety Certificate is desirable, however training will be provided.
Job Summary:
Principal Duties/Tasks and responsibilities
- To assist with organising and controlling the establishment’s operations and ensure that the food quality, presentation and service are provided to the appropriate standards set by the School, as required by the Catering Manager
- To assist controlling and recording HACCP requirements including Allergen Management.
- To ensure the Dining Room, Kitchen and Dishwasher areas are cleaned and maintained to high standards following strict cleaning schedules. Reporting any breakages or hazards to the Catering Manager.
- Be present at the daily pre-service Allergen information briefing and complete Allergen Trackers for EYFS/ After School Club snacks.
- Responsible for storage and stock check as directed by Catering Manager
- Ensure stock levels are correct and provide orders for required stock to Catering Manager.
- Simple food preparation and service as directed. To prepare and serve a healthy afternoon snack for EYFS/ After School Clubs as directed by the Catering Manager/ Head of EYFS.
- Serve food offer, advise and assist pupils to make healthy choices
- Responsible for dining room and counter cleanliness.
- Clean as you go! Ensure all work surfaces, tables, benches etc are regularly washed and sanitized after each use, as per cleaning schedules. Sign off cleaning schedules as tasks are completed.
- Ensure all Cutlery, Crockery and cookware is cleaned and sanitized (where possible this should be through the dishwasher). Stored away safely and securely and the dishwasher cleaned and shut down accordingly.
- All floors should be swept after each service and mopped as directed at the end of each day (or as required for spillages etc)
- Take part in any mandatory training.
- Keep abreast of current food trends, sharing knowledge with others in the team.
- Remember: We are all responsible for the Food, Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Welfare of ALL users of the Catering Facilities and the wider school community. ANY concerns should be reported in the first instance to the Catering Manager (if appropriate) and/or the DSL who will advise if any further action is required.
- Any other reasonable task which the Catering Manager or Head Teacher requires to be carried out.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation across the school, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
- Undertake routine housekeeping duties, including cleaning and disinfecting designated areas, replenishing consumable supplies, spot cleaning classrooms and communal areas, and managing waste and recycling.
- Carry out general site presentation tasks, including litter picking, cleaning entrances and other fixtures, and supporting the upkeep of internal and external areas as required.
- Respond flexibly to operational requirements by undertaking additional housekeeping and facilities-related duties, as reasonably directed by the Head Housekeeper, Estates Manager or other designated manager.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Able to work as part of a team and solo, using initiative where required
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions
- Able to communicate with teachers, students and other stakeholders
- Food, Health and hygiene awareness
- Awareness of healthy eating issues
- Previous experience of working in a catering environment
- Previous experience of working in a school environment
- Basic reading and writing skills to maintain records
Desirable:
- Experience in an educational environment.
- Previous experience of working in a housekeeping role
- Level 2 Food Safety in Catering
- Certificate in Allergen Management
- COSHH and Bodily Fluids training
