The role
As a Welding QAQC Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the quality, integrity and safety of critical welding activities that support some of the UK's most important defence programmes. Working within a highly skilled engineering environment, you'll help maintain the standards that underpin submarine and surface ship maintenance and construction, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest levels of compliance.
Day-to-day, you’ll have an exciting opportunity to combine your welding and fabrication expertise with quality assurance and engineering best practice. You'll work alongside technical specialists, project teams and customers, contributing directly to programmes that support national security while developing your own professional capability within a world-class engineering organisation.
Producing welding quality assurance documentation, Weld Information Sheets and method statements for repair and emergent work activities.
Reviewing welding and non-destructive testing quality packs prior to final acceptance.
Conducting visual inspections before, during and after welding activities to ensure compliance with quality requirements and standards.
Advising managers, project engineers, frontline teams and customer representatives on welding methods, repairs and quality-related matters.
Supporting the development of welding procedures, process improvements and quality assurance initiatives across the business.
This role is full time 35, hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Welding QA QC Engineer
Extensive practical welding and fabrication experience within a heavy engineering, marine, defence, manufacturing or industrial environment.
Strong knowledge of welding processes, techniques and associated quality requirements.
Experience interpreting engineering drawings, welding joints and welding symbols.
Experience creating welding documentation, including Weld Information Sheets and quality records.
Ability to communicate technical information clearly and apply relevant welding standards and acceptance criteria.
Qualifications for the Welding QA QC Engineer
Craft Apprenticeship, City & Guilds in Fabrication/Engineering Discipline or equivalent
Qualified to CSWIP 3:1 in Visual Weld Inspection - Desirable. (Training offered in post)
Radiation Worker and Confined Space entry (Training offered in post)
NSQAC desirable. (Training offered in post)
Nuclear Plant Foundation (Training offered in post)
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
