Job Title: Cafe Assistant
Job Purpose
To prepare and cook food to a high standard in a busy and popular café environment. The role requires an organised, efficient, and reliable individual who can work calmly under pressure while maintaining food quality, hygiene, and excellent kitchen operations. The successful candidate will support the daily running of the kitchen and ensure customers receive fresh, well-presented meals in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare, cook, and present menu items consistently to a high standard.

Ensure all food is prepared in accordance with food safety and hygiene regulations.

Manage food preparation and service during busy periods while maintaining quality and efficiency.

Monitor stock levels and report shortages to management.

Assist with ordering, receiving, and storing deliveries correctly.

Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment at all times.

Ensure all equipment is used safely and maintained appropriately.

Minimise food waste and contribute to cost-effective kitchen operations.

Work collaboratively with other kitchen and front-of-house team members.

Support with menu preparation and daily kitchen set-up and close-down procedures.

Follow all health and safety procedures and company policies.
Experience Required

Previous experience working as a Chef, Cook, Kitchen Assistant, Food Preparation Assistant, or in a similar catering environment.

Experience preparing and cooking food in a fast-paced kitchen or café setting.

Ability to remain calm, organised, and productive during busy service periods.

Experience maintaining high food hygiene and cleanliness standards.
-
Experience working as part of a team is desirable.
Qualifications
Essential

Knowledge of food hygiene and safe food handling practices.

Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends, as the café operates 7 days a week.
Desirable
-
Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).

Relevant catering, hospitality, or culinary qualification.

First Aid certification.
