Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit experienced and motivated Chief Stewards to join our expanding Events Team.
The Role
As a Chief Steward, you will be responsible for leading and supervising stewarding teams, ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of spectators, staff, and contractors while delivering excellent customer service.
You will work closely with the Event Manager, Safety Officer, Supervisors to ensure events are delivered safely and efficiently in accordance with company procedures and venue safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise stewarding teams before, during, and after events.
- Conduct staff briefings and allocate stewarding positions.
- Monitor ingress, egress, spectator movement, and crowd behaviour.
- Oversee perimeter security and search operations where required.
- Ensure compliance with Ground Regulations, Safety Certificates, and event procedures.
- Identify potential hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
- Manage incidents and provide accurate reports to Event Management and the Safety Officer.
- Coordinate emergency procedures and support evacuations when required.
- Maintain effective communication with event management, emergency services, and venue staff.
- Mentor and support Stewards to ensure high standards of performance.
- Ensure SIA Door Supervisors are deployed appropriately in licensed areas, response teams, and search positions where required.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience working as a Chief Steward, Senior Steward, or in a supervisory role within spectator safety.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- The ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure.
- A professional, approachable, and customer-focused attitude.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
- The right to work in the UK.
Essential Requirements
- Level 3 Certificate in Spectator Safety (or equivalent), or a willingness to work towards the qualification.
- Previous stewarding or event safety experience.
- Good knowledge of crowd management and spectator safety.
- SIA Door Supervisor Licence
Desirable Qualifications
- First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid qualification.
- Experience working at sporting events, concerts, festivals, or major public events.
- Knowledge of the SGSA Green Guide and National Occupational Standards for Spectator Safety.
