The Role
As Dispensing Optician, you’ll play a key part in the patient journey, acting as the vital link between the consulting room and the dispensing process. You’ll provide expert advice, deliver a premium experience, and ensure every patient leaves with the best possible solution for their lifestyle and visual needs.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver outstanding customer service with a warm, professional approach
Support the three-way handover between the Optometrist and patient
Guide patients through frame and lens selection with confidence
Take accurate measurements, including the use of digital dispensing tools where required
Ensure orders are processed smoothly and liaise with suppliers when needed
Carry out quality checks, fittings, and adjustments to ensure comfort and accuracy
Complete administration and clinical record keeping to a high standard, ensuring GDPR compliance
Handle transactions accurately and in line with practice procedures
Support and supervise Dispensing Assistants, providing training where appropriate
Assist with minor repairs to spectacles and hearing devices
Resolve patient queries professionally, escalating where necessary
Maintain excellent standards of presentation in both personal appearance and practice environment
Keep up to date with products, clinical techniques, CPD, and GOC requirements
Requirements
Previous experience within an optical dispensing environment
Level 6 Diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing (or equivalent)
GOC registration
Strong communication skills with a patient-first mindset
Confident using IT systems with strong organisational skills
Positive, adaptable, and motivated to develop within a progressive independent practice
