We are looking for a practical, reliable and customer-focused Facilities Officer to help provide an effective and efficient caretaking service across Queens Buildings, Worksop Town Hall and Retford Town Hall. The role supports the smooth running, safety, security and presentation of civic and office buildings used by staff, visitors, members of the public and external hirers.
About the role
As Facilities Officer, you will assist with the day-to-day caretaking and facilities support required across Council buildings. This will include preparing function rooms for Council, civic and private events, setting up ancillary equipment, helping with refreshments for meetings and training courses, and carrying out associated cleaning duties.
You will also support the security and safe operation of the buildings by maintaining a visible presence, opening and closing buildings as required, assisting with deliveries, moving and repairing office furniture, supporting civic and official occasions, and undertaking cleaning or emptying tasks not covered by external contracts.
The post also includes duties such as checking water systems, providing cover for courier duties when required, and carrying out caretaking functions at Worksop and Retford facilities. You will be expected to work in line with the Council’s Health and Safety responsibilities, policies and procedures, and the post is employed under NJC Conditions of Service for Local Government Services.
What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone with experience of providing caretaking services in an office or civic environment, along with experience of supporting building health and safety and security. Experience of supervisory or administrative duties would also be beneficial.
You should have knowledge of managing health and safety issues, alongside an understanding of testing safety equipment in relation to fire safety and knowledge of equality and diversity legislation.
You must hold a full and clean driving licence and have good literacy and numeracy skills. A basic first aid qualification would be desirable.

- Work well as part of a team while taking responsibility for their own duties.
- Lead by example and help motivate others when required.
- Assist with room set-up and the movement of office furniture.
Working pattern
The role requires flexibility and a willingness to work a shift system, including early mornings and evenings. Flexibility to respond to emergency call-outs in out-of-hours situations and alarms is desirable.
