The role:
Northeastern University London is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Mixed Volleyball Coach to lead our mixed volleyball team competing in London Universities Sport League (LUSL) mixed intermediate fixtures.
This is a hands-on coaching role suited to someone who understands the unique demands of university sport, balancing competitive performance with student welfare, team cohesion and development. You will work closely with the team captain, the Communities Officer and the Students' Union President to provide an excellent experience for all players, regardless of level.
University Sport Context
Our mixed team competes in LUSL at the Intermediate level, with structured weekly fixtures for students, and the coach must be familiar with LUSL registration, eligibility rules, and the fixture calendar.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coaching & Session Delivery
- Plan, deliver and evaluate engaging weekly training sessions for the mixed squad.
- Design and implement pre-season, in-season and off-season programmes tailored to the LUSL fixture schedule.
- Provide technical and tactical coaching across all playing positions, appropriate to intermediate level.
- Deliver individual and group feedback that supports measurable player development.
- Foster an inclusive, positive team culture that accommodates players of varying experience.
Match Preparation & Fixtures
- Prepare the squad for all LUSL mixed intermediate fixtures.
- Attend home and away fixtures and manage team selection in consultation with the team captain.
- Conduct pre-match preparation and post-match review to inform ongoing training.
Administration & Compliance
- Ensure all players are correctly registered with LUSL and comply with BUCS eligibility requirements.
- Liaise with the Communities Officer and SU President on squad administration, player recruitment and club communications.
- Submit match results and any required reports to LUSL within required timeframes.
- Maintain basic training records and contribute to end-of-season reviews.
Safeguarding, Welfare & Inclusion
- Uphold the university's safeguarding and duty-of-care obligations at all times.
- Promote a positive, accessible coaching environment in line with Volleyball England and BUCS guidelines.
- Support student athlete wellbeing, recognising the pressures of balancing sport with academic study.
- Adhere to all health and safety requirements at training venues and match day venues.
Club Growth
- Support player recruitment activities, including fresher events and taster sessions.
- Work with the SU to promote the club and develop participation across the university community.

Education, Qualifications and Training
- Minimum Volleyball England Level 1 Coaching Qualification (or equivalent NGB award) [E]
- Volleyball England Level 2 or working towards it [D]
- First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain one [D]
Experience
- Demonstrated coaching experience at club, university, or regional level [E]
- Experience coaching mixed-gender teams [E]
- Previous experience in a university or Students' Union sport environment [D]
- Playing experience at club or regional level [D]
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of LUSL structure, fixture administration, registration and eligibility rules [E]
- Understanding of BUCS competition formats and player eligibility requirements [E]
- Ability to plan and deliver progressive, inclusive training sessions appropriate to intermediate level [E]
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships with students and SU staff [E]
- Organisational skills and reliability, consistent attendance at sessions and fixtures is essential [E]
- Commitment to safeguarding and student welfare [E]
- Familiarity with video or performance analysis tools (e.g. Hudl) [D]
