Paid PCREF Co-production Workshop Contributor (Lived Experience)
Location: Nottinghamshire (in-person workshops; dates, accessible venues and times will be confirmed in advance)
Job type: Casual / sessional, workshop-based involvement
Pay: £15 per hour for attending workshops, plus agreed travel and out-of-pocket expenses
About the opportunity
Lived Experience Network (LENs) is working in partnership with Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) to deliver co-production workshops for the Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework (PCREF).
PCREF is a national NHS framework focused on reducing racial inequalities in mental health services. It asks whether people can access support fairly, whether they are treated with dignity and cultural understanding, whether services lead to meaningful and equitable outcomes, and whether communities can see that listening leads to action.
We are looking for people who can bring lived experience, carer insight or relevant community knowledge to these workshops. Your contribution will help Nottinghamshire Healthcare listen, learn and understand what needs to change.
This is a paid, casual involvement opportunity rather than a permanent staff, clinical or counselling role. You do not need previous professional experience or knowledge of NHS policy.
Who this opportunity is for
This opportunity may suit you if:
- You have personal experience of using, trying to access or being affected by mental health services provided by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust; or you are a carer, family member or supporter with relevant experience.
- You are from, or have strong personal or community links with, racialised, ethnically diverse or Global Majority communities.
- You live in, work in or have a meaningful connection to Nottinghamshire or Nottinghamshire mental health services.
- You care about improving race equity, access, experience, outcomes and trust in mental health services.
- You can listen to different views and contribute respectfully, including when sensitive issues are discussed.
We welcome people who are completely new to co-production and involvement work, as well as those who have taken part before.
What you will do
As a workshop contributor, you may:
- Take part in supported group discussions and practical activities.
- Explore the four PCREF themes: access, experience, outcomes and trust.
- Help identify what is working, what gets in the way and what needs to change.
- Share themes, insight and ideas from your own experience or community connections.
- Help prioritise practical messages and recommendations for Nottinghamshire Healthcare.
- Give feedback on how the workshops and wider PCREF work can be safe, inclusive and meaningful.
Your insight will contribute to workshop learning notes, themes and priorities that can inform the Trust’s wider PCREF work.
Sharing safely and by choice
You will never be expected to tell your full story or share more than feels right. You can contribute by speaking, writing, listening or reflecting, and you may pause, pass or step out at any time.
You are not expected to represent every person from a particular community. The workshops are not a route for investigating individual complaints, although wider themes and concerns can be captured and raised through appropriate routes.
What you can expect from LENs and Nottinghamshire Healthcare
- A respectful, inclusive and non-judgemental workshop space.
- Clear information about the workshop, what is being asked of you and how your input will be used.
- Trauma-informed facilitation, wellbeing check-ins and clear routes to ask for support.
- Reasonable adjustments and accessibility support wherever possible.
- Payment of £15 per hour for workshop attendance.
- Reimbursement of agreed travel and out-of-pocket expenses.
- Feedback about the themes identified and what happens next.
Future involvement
The workshops are valuable in their own right. You may also be invited to hear about future PCREF workshops or express interest in the smaller PCREF Advisory Group, but there is no pressure to do so. Workshop attendance does not guarantee Advisory Group membership, and choosing not to join the Advisory Group does not reduce the value of your contribution.
Selection
We want each workshop to include a balanced range of lived experiences, community perspectives, backgrounds and connections across Nottinghamshire. If more people apply than there are places, we will use a supportive, values-based selection process.
How to apply
Please apply through Indeed and answer the short screening questions. We would like to understand:
- Your connection to Nottinghamshire or Nottinghamshire mental health services.
- The lived experience, carer perspective or community insight you would bring.
- Why you are interested in helping improve race equity in mental health services.
- Any reasonable adjustments or access support that would help you take part.
Questions about the opportunity can also be sent to [email protected].
LENs and Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are committed to respectful, inclusive involvement. We particularly welcome interest from people and communities whose voices have been underrepresented in mental health service design and improvement.
