Brambles Deli & Farm Shop is a friendly, community-focused shop and café serving quality local produce, deli favourites and freshly made coffee. We're looking for a warm, reliable, and hardworking Barista & Shop Assistant to join our small team and help us deliver a great experience for every customer who walks through the door.
The Role
This is a hands-on, varied role combining barista work with general shop duties. You'll be the face of Brambles for our customers - making great coffee, serving food, keeping the shop looking its best, and helping things run smoothly on the shop floor. Shifts run 8:00am–4:00pm (morning/lunch trade) or 3:00pm–11:00pm (afternoon/evening trade, including closing duties) part time/full time available/days& shifts patterns to be agreed.
Key Responsibilities
Barista Duties
- Prepare and serve espresso-based drinks, filter coffee, teas and other beverages to a high standard
- Operate and maintain the coffee machine and grinder, including regular cleaning and basic troubleshooting
- Take customer orders accurately, whether at the counter or table
- Fridge temperature checks and logs filled in
- Date labels
- Maintain excellent food hygiene and cleanliness standards at the coffee bar at all times
- Manage stock levels of coffee, milk, syrups and related consumables, flagging shortages to the manager
Shop Assistant Duties
- Provide friendly, attentive service to customers browsing and shopping in the deli and farm shop
- Assist with till operation, cash handling and card payments
- Restock shelves, chillers and displays, rotating stock and checking use-by dates
- Support with deli counter duties, such as slicing, weighing and packaging products
- Help receive and put away deliveries, checking against orders
- Carry out regular stocktakes and support accurate inventory management
- Rotate stock throughout the shop (first in, first out), minimising waste and ensuring freshness
- Keep the shop floor, café area and back-of-house spaces clean, tidy and well presented
- Assist with opening or closing procedures depending on shift (e.g. cashing up, equipment shutdown, final cleaning)
- Answer customer questions about products, local suppliers and seasonal offerings
What We're Looking For
- A friendly, approachable manner and genuine enjoyment of working with the public
- Previous barista or hospitality experience is desirable but not essential — full training provided
- Reliable, punctual and able to work well as part of a small team
- Comfortable with manual tasks such as lifting stock, standing for extended periods, and being on your feet throughout the shift
- A flexible approach, happy to turn your hand to whatever the shop needs on the day
- Good attention to detail, particularly around food hygiene and cleanliness
- Basic numeracy for handling cash and till transactions
Desirable (not essential)
- Food hygiene certificate (Level 2 or equivalent)
- Experience with latte art or specialty coffee
- Interest in local, seasonal or artisan food and drink

Pay: £13.00 per hour
