Are you passionate about supporting student learning and making a positive impact in their holistic development? Advantage Education are currently seeking dedicated individuals to join a local alternative provision as a Learning mentor.
This would be based in and around the Blandford area, but staff happy and able to travel to other areas such as Dorchester are preferred.
About the Provision:
The alternative provision provides a safe, inclusive, and innovative learning environment for children aged 4 to 16, with a strong focus on individualised support and emotional well-being. We specialise in helping students with needs including but not limited to; Autism, ADHD, and SEMH through personalised mentoring, practical tutoring, and engaging, real-world activities. Our experienced staff create flexible learning experiences both in and out of the classroom to build confidence, life skills, and a love for learning. Physical Education and sensory-based learning play key roles in supporting mental and physical health. With a strong safeguarding framework and close collaboration with families, we ensure every child feels supported to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
About the Role:
As a Learning Mentor, you will support teachers and students while helping create an inclusive learning environment. Based across the Blandford/ wider Dorset area, this role involves working with students both onsite and offsite, including in the community and in pupils’ homes, to provide tailored support and promote engagement with learning.
Responsibilities:
- Taking students offsite to engage in Sport and various other activities within the community.
- Assist teachers in delivering lessons and providing one-on-one support to students, especially those with learning difficulties or special needs.
- Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment by managing classroom dynamics and encouraging good behaviour.
- Prepare teaching materials and organise resources to enhance learning experiences.
- Assist in assessing students’ progress and provide feedback to the senior leadership team.
- Foster student independence and utilise effective communication techniques.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Relevant experience working with children or young people in an educational setting.
- Understanding of special education needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A patient and empathetic approach to supporting students with diverse needs.

- Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with Advantage Education.
