Accounts Assistant
Location: Fife – Office & Client Sites
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm (1-hour unpaid lunch break)

About the Role
We are looking for a reliable, organised and motivated Accounts Assistant to join our bookkeeping firm.
The successful candidate will support our team with day-to-day bookkeeping and accounts administration for a range of clients. This is a varied role that will involve working both from our offices and on-site at client premises, so the ability and willingness to travel is essential.
This position would suit someone who enjoys working with numbers, has excellent attention to detail and is comfortable working independently as well as as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining accurate financial records for clients
- Processing purchase and sales invoices
- Recording and reconciling bank transactions
- Bank and account reconciliations
- Processing expenses and payments
- Assisting with VAT returns and other routine accounting requirements
- Maintaining bookkeeping records using accounting software
- Assisting with payroll administration where required
- Preparing basic financial reports and schedules
- Liaising professionally with clients and responding to queries
- Visiting client premises to carry out bookkeeping and accounts-related duties
- Ensuring all work is completed accurately and within agreed deadlines
- Supporting senior members of the accounts team with general accounting duties
- Maintaining confidentiality and handling client information appropriately
About You
We are looking for someone who is:

- Confident working with numbers

- Comfortable working independently and managing their own workload
- A good communicator with strong interpersonal skills
- Confident using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Willing to learn new accounting and bookkeeping software
- Comfortable travelling to and working at different client locations
- Able to work effectively both on their own and as part of a team
- Committed to providing a high standard of service to clients
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in bookkeeping, accounts administration or a similar finance role
- Good understanding of basic bookkeeping principles
- Good IT and Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Willingness and ability to travel to client sites across Fife
- Ability to work on-site at client premises when required
- A professional and approachable manner
Desirable
- Experience working within an accountancy or bookkeeping practice
- Experience with accounting software such as Xero, Sage or QuickBooks
- Experience with VAT returns
- Previous experience dealing directly with clients
Working Hours
Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm
This is a 35-hour working week, including a 1-hour unpaid lunch break each day.
The role will involve a combination of office-based work and on-site client visits, and candidates must be willing to travel as required.
