We are currently recruiting for a Nursery Chef to join our team at one of our independent schools in York YO24 4DD.
This is a 12 month temporary contract. You'll work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, shifts will be either 7am to 3:30pm or 8am to 4:30pm. There is potential for this contract to transfer to a permanent role.

We're looking for a passionate Nursery Chef to prepare fresh, nutritious meals for up to 300 pupils, including up to 50 nursery children. You'll be responsible for delivering breakfast, lunch and an evening meal each day, creating balanced menus using fresh, locally sourced ingredients while maintaining the highest standards of food quality and presentation.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of food allergies, intolerances and special dietary requirements, ensuring all meals are prepared safely and in line with allergen legislation. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Have experience working in a similar role and environment
- Be highly organised and comfortable working in a high-pressured environment
- Ensure you have high standards of food hygiene and follow the rules of health and safety
- Keep up standards of hygiene and ensure all areas are clean and tidy
- Have excellent customer service and social skills
- Be responsible for the preparation and serving of food to staff
- Have a can do attitude and will work well as part of a team of 10
- Be customer focused
- Have basic food knowledge
- Be willing to participate and enjoy working part of the team
