About the Role
We are looking for an organised and proactive Transport Operator to join our busy general haulage operation.
The successful candidate will be responsible for co-ordinating daily transport activities, ensuring vehicles and drivers are efficiently managed, deliveries and collections are completed on time, and customers receive a high standard of service.
This is a fast-paced role requiring excellent communication, strong attention to detail and the ability to remain calm and organised when priorities change.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with drivers throughout the day to monitor progress and resolve operational issues.
- Communicate with customers regarding collections, deliveries and any changes to schedules.
- Manage incoming transport enquiries and provide accurate information to customers.
- Monitor vehicle availability, driver hours and planned movements.
- Ensure transport documentation, delivery notes and relevant records are completed accurately.
- Deal with delays, breakdowns, traffic issues and other operational challenges promptly.
- Liaise with customers, drivers, suppliers and other departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Assist with the planning of future transport requirements.
- Ensure transport activities are carried out in accordance with company procedures and relevant legal requirements.
- Maintain accurate records using transport management system (Qargo), spreadsheets and other company systems.
- Support the Transport Manager with general administrative and operational duties.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
- Confident communicating with drivers, customers and colleagues.
- Able to prioritise workloads and make decisions in a busy environment.
- Calm and professional when dealing with pressure or unexpected problems.
- A confident telephone and email communicator.
- Comfortable using computers, Microsoft Office and transport/haulage systems.
- Commercially aware and focused on providing excellent customer service.
- A good team player who is also capable of working independently.
Previous experience in transport, logistics, general haulage or a transport office environment is desirable, but not essential. Knowledge of drivers' hours, vehicle regulations and transport compliance would be an advantage.
Pay: £30,000.00-£34,000.00 per year
