Job Role
Ringway is looking for a Utility Service Technician (UST) to join our Gloucestershire Highways team. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced operative or technician who is passionate about health and safety, utility detection, and making a real difference to the safety of colleagues working on-site.
As a UST, you will play a critical role in helping prevent utility strikes by carrying out detailed underground utility surveys ahead of excavation works. Using specialist equipment including CAT & Genny, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and utility locating technology, you will identify, map and report underground services to ensure works are completed safely and efficiently.
This role would suit someone currently working within highways, utilities, civil engineering or construction who enjoys utility detection and is looking to develop this area into a full-time career.
Duties
- Carry out pre-excavation utility surveys across the Gloucestershire Highways network.
- Use CAT & Genny, GPR and other utility detection equipment to identify and map underground services.
- Produce clear survey reports and site markings to support safe excavation activities.
- Plan and manage your own workload and diary effectively.
- Support operational teams by providing expert advice on safe digging practices.
- Coach and mentor operatives in the correct use of utility detection equipment.
- Review and analyse utility detection data to improve safe digging standards across the contract.
- Promote a strong health and safety culture at all times
Person Specification
- Has experience as an operative or technician within highways, utilities, construction or civil engineering.
- Is passionate about health and safety and protecting colleagues on-site.
- Can work independently and manage their own schedule.
- Is trustworthy, diligent and takes pride in doing a thorough job.
- Has experience using CAT & Genny or other utility detection equipment.
- Enjoys sharing knowledge and coaching others.
- Has basic IT and reporting skills.
