M&M Supply is recruiting on behalf of a specialist residential service in Mid Devon supporting profoundly deaf young adults to live happy, independent and fulfilling lives.
About the Role
This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to support profoundly deaf young adults within a residential home environment. Every individual communicates using British Sign Language (BSL) alongside AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices and visual communication methods.
You'll become an important part of their daily lives, helping them develop independence, confidence and life skills whilst ensuring they feel safe, valued and supported.
The home is fully equipped with specialist sensory equipment including:
- Specialist fire alarm systems
- Vibrating alert systems
- Minicom facilities
- Video communication technology including FaceTime and Skype
- Communication aids designed specifically for Deaf individuals
Working alongside an experienced and supportive team, you'll help create a positive and engaging environment where every young person can thrive.
What You'll Be Doing
- Supporting young adults with all aspects of daily living
- Encouraging independence and life skills
- Communicating using BSL, AAC devices and visual communication methods
- Supporting attendance at Deaf community events and activities
- Working alongside local organisations, education providers and support services
- Planning and participating in hobbies, social activities and community outings
- Promoting wellbeing, confidence and positive outcomes
- Supporting with household routines and maintaining a welcoming home environment
- Completing accurate daily records and care documentation
What We're Looking For
We're looking for caring, patient and enthusiastic individuals who genuinely want to make a difference.
You don't need to be fluent in BSL to apply.
Essential:
- A caring, compassionate and positive attitude
- Excellent communication skills
- Willingness to learn British Sign Language
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends and sleep-ins
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
Desirable:
- Previous experience in residential care, support work or social care
- Some knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL)
- Experience supporting individuals with additional needs
