What are we looking for…
Due to continued growth, Airco is seeking an experienced Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer to join our expanding in-house design team at our Hull head office.
This is an exciting opportunity for a driven engineer with a strong background in Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) building services design across a diverse range of sectors. You'll take the lead on significant and complex projects, managing the mechanical design from initial concept through to completion while delivering high-quality, innovative solutions that exceed client expectations. Working closely with clients and project teams, you'll play a key role in building lasting relationships, securing repeat business and ensuring projects are delivered successfully and profitably. This is a full-time, office-based position in Hull, with some travel to site when needed.
What You'll Do...
- Lead the mechanical design and delivery of significant and complex building services projects from concept through to completion.
- Develop detailed HVAC designs, calculations, reports, specifications, GA drawings, system schematics and equipment selections.
- Define and develop design briefs with clients, building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and consultants.
- Ensure designs comply with client specifications, current legislation and industry standards.
- Coordinate mechanical services within multidisciplinary project teams to deliver fully integrated design solutions.
- With decarbonisation at the forefront of the industry, you'll help deliver sustainable building solutions by incorporating renewable technologies, energy analysis and low-carbon design principles into projects.
- Produce fully coordinated mechanical installation drawings and technical documentation.
- Manage multiple projects across a variety of sectors, ensuring delivery to programme, budget and client expectations.
- Attend client, design and project progress meetings, carrying out site visits, detailed surveys, condition assessments and technical reports.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to mechanical engineers and wider project teams.
- Contribute to the continued growth of the business by delivering exceptional client service, encouraging repeat business and ensuring profitable project delivery.
About You
You’ll have proven experience in Mechanical Building Services Design, with a strong HVAC background and substantial experience as a design engineer within mechanical services. Experience of air movement is essential.
You’ll be confident managing multiple projects from concept to completion and have experience designing mechanical solutions for commercial, industrial and retail environments.
You’ll also have:
- Strong knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building services.
- A good understanding of UK Building Regulations and industry standards.
- Experience using Revit, AutoCAD, CAD and mechanical calculation software.
- Knowledge of renewable technologies and low-carbon building design.
- Excellent communication, presentation and client-facing skills.
- The ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong computer and mathematical skills.
