LMA is a family-run, growing aerosol manufacturer based in Pocklington, East Yorkshire. We specialise in private label products, developing and manufacturing on behalf of brand owners, and work hands-on with solvents, oils, paints and a wide range of chemicals and processes. We work closely with our customers across many products at the same time, so no two days are the same.
About the role
As Technical Manager, you’ll lead and co-ordinate all aspects of our Technical Department and the people within it, taking ownership of product development from the lab bench through to the finished product. It’s a varied role combining team and project leadership with hands-on R&D, process analysis and improvement, and problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical function of the business and set the direction of the team.
- Drive R&D — understand our products and chemistry, then develop and expand the range.
- Manage and direct the day-to-day workload of laboratory technicians and administrators.
- Manage long-term projects, including your own hands-on project work.
- Support laboratory technicians with their projects.
- Maintain accurate records and product specifications.
- Handle customer contact, service and general administration.
What you’ll need
- 2–5 years’ experience working in a laboratory.
- An understanding of chemistry, ideally to degree level or higher.
- In-depth knowledge of organic chemistry and chemicals — solvents, surfactants, paints and their applications (aerosol and liquid products ideal).
- Knowledge of lab work, industrial chemicals and analysis.
- Strong organisational and team-leadership skills.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to prioritise and meet targets.
- Self-motivated with a good work rate and efficient practical skills.
