Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated HGV Fitter to join our maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) to ensure they operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, along with hands-on experience in vehicle fabrication, welding, and equipment repair. This position offers an opportunity to work with a diverse fleet of commercial vehicles, including excavators and forklifts, supporting operational excellence across our organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on HGVs and related equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using schematics and technical manuals
- Perform repairs utilizing hand tools, power tools, welding, soldering, and fabrication techniques
- Replace or repair faulty components such as brakes, engines, transmissions, and electrical systems
- Maintain detailed records of repairs, maintenance schedules, and parts used
- Assist with assembly and installation of new vehicle components or equipment modifications
- Support heavy lifting operations safely using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or cranes
- Troubleshoot electrical systems and wiring harnesses to resolve complex issues
- Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and industry standards
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding repairs and maintenance needs
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an HGV fitter or heavy vehicle mechanic with a strong background in mechanical repair
- Proficiency in fabrication, welding, soldering, and reading schematics
- Electrical experience related to vehicle systems is essential
- Knowledge of heavy machinery such as excavators and forklifts is advantageous
- Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and assembly equipment effectively
- Strong understanding of maintenance procedures for commercial vehicles
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Good communication skills for liaising with team members and clients
