Full-time, permanent | Cheltenham, Gloucestershire | Site-based
About the Building
Our client is a landmark commercial office building in Cheltenham, home to a range of business tenants alongside residential apartments. The building is professionally managed with a focus on high standards of tenant service, safety, and building presentation.
The Role
We are looking for a hands-on, reliable Maintenance Technician to join a small on-site maintenance team. This is a varied, practical role covering planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, and general building upkeep across common areas, plant rooms, and grounds. You will work alongside two other Maintenance Technicians to keep the building safe, compliant, and well-presented for tenants and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across the building, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and general fabric repairs within your competence
- Undertake routine inspections and checks (e.g. fire doors, emergency lighting, plant rooms, communal areas) and log findings accurately
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from tenants and the building team, prioritising according to urgency and safety
- Support specialist contractors attending site (lifts, HVAC, fire systems, security systems)
- Maintain accurate records of works carried out, parts used, and any compliance or safety checks
- Follow health & safety practices and safe systems of work at all times
- Assist with grounds and external area upkeep, and light porterage/handyman duties as required
- Escalate any building faults, safety concerns, or contractor issues
About You
- Proven experience in a maintenance, facilities, or building services role (commercial property experience preferred)
- Practical, multi-skilled background — basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry/handyman skills
- A relevant trade qualification (e.g. NVQ in a building services discipline) is desirable but not essential
- Good working knowledge of health & safety practices relevant to building maintenance
- Comfortable using own initiative, prioritising a varied workload, and working well as part of a small team
- Clear communicator, professional manner with tenants, contractors, and colleagues
- Full UK driving licence preferred
- Flexible and reliable, with a genuine hands-on, can-do approach
What's on Offer
- Competitive salary, dependent on experience
- Permanent, full-time role based on-site in Cheltenham
- Opportunity to play a key hands-on role in a well-regarded commercial building
- Supportive, close-knit building management team
