Job Title: Care Home Cook
Job Summary
We are looking for a passionate and experienced Cook to join our care home team. As a cook in our care home , you will be responsible for preparing nutritious, well-balanced meals tailored to the dietary needs of our residents, including those with specific health conditions. You will play a key role in promoting health, comfort, and well-being through high-quality food and service.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals in line with the weekly menu plan and individual dietary requirements
- Ensure meals are presented attractively and served on time
- Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic kitchen environment in line with Food Safety and Health & Safety regulations
- Manage food stock, order supplies, and ensure proper storage and rotation
- Cater to special diets (e.g. diabetic, soft food, gluten-free, vegetarian, etc.)
- Collaborate with care staff to support residents’ nutritional needs and preferences
- Ensure allergens are clearly identified and managed
- Complete daily kitchen records, including temperature checks and cleaning logs
- Supervise and support kitchen assistants if applicable
- Comply with infection control policies and current food safety legislation
- Promote a positive dining experience for all residents
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as a cook or chef, ideally in a care home, school, or healthcare setting
- Knowledge of dietary requirements for older adults and those with health conditions
- Food Hygiene Level 2 (minimum requirement) – Level 3 desirable
- Understanding of HACCP and COSHH regulations
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Compassion and respect for older people and those with dementia
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From £12.86 per hour
