The Clerical Officer – Podiatry provides efficient, professional and comprehensive administrative support to the Podiatry Service, helping to ensure patients receive a high-quality, responsive service. Working closely with clinicians and the wider multidisciplinary team, the post holder will support the smooth day-to-day running of the service through effective administration and excellent customer care.
The role includes managing appointments, processing referrals, maintaining accurate patient records, responding to telephone and face-to-face enquiries, and ensuring information is handled confidentially and in line with Trust policies. The post holder will also support meetings, maintain administrative systems, use a range of IT packages and contribute to the effective organisation of the department.
Strong organisational, communication and IT skills are essential, along with the ability to prioritise workloads and work both independently and as part of a busy team. By providing a reliable and efficient administrative service, the Clerical Officer will play an important role in supporting clinicians to deliver safe, effective and patient-centred care, while ensuring patients receive a positive experience throughout their contact with the Podiatry Service.

A new Urgent Emergency Care Centre was opened in March 2023. The two-storey development has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity and has provided almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.
- Communicate effectively and maintain good working relationships with non- clinical and clinical colleagues and all other members of the multi-disciplinary team e.g., GPs, Consultants, Physiotherapists, Orthotists and Social Care to provide a coordinated and efficient patient focused service.
- Receive and provide information that may require tact or persuasive skills to inform and support work colleagues, clinicians, other departments, patients and clients as appropriate to the job.
- Request necessary items, information or services from other departments.
- Act as central point for all routine non-clinical enquiries, messages and communications (verbal and written).
- Exercise good judgement, tact and discretion when dealing with patient enquiries by providing a basic analysis of needs and providing non-clinical advice to patients and relatives/carers about appointments as authorised by the clinical team and team leaders.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to external and internal telephone queries from clients, carers/relatives, members of the general public and members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- To refer any clinical enquires to relevant clinical teams and team leaders in a timely manner.
- Provide clerical support as required and/or as assigned.
- Support front facing reception areas to receive (meet and greet) patients, relatives, carers, members of the general public, clinical and non clinical staff.
- Comments and contributes to local administrative and secretarial policies and procedures.
- Handle complaints in a tactful and courteous manner, in line with organisational policies and procedures.
- Be responsible for ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times in accordance with the Data Protection Act and organisation’s policies and procedures.
