About the role
Join the fostering network at the RSPCA Nottingham and Notts Branch and help provide loving, temporary homes for cats and kittens in need. Our fosterers play a vital role in rehabilitation and rehoming, giving animals the care, stability, and time they need before finding their forever homes.
Fostering placements can last from a few weeks to several months depending on the individual animal’s needs.
This is a volunteer role. All food, litter, toys, equipment, and veterinary costs are fully provided and covered by the branch.
Key responsibilities
- Provide a calm and comfortable home environment for foster cats (a spare room is required if you have other pets)
- Feed, water, groom, and provide enrichment for foster cats
- Monitor and record daily observations relating to health and behaviour
- Communicate regularly with your Fostering Coordinator
- Transport foster cats for emergency veterinary appointments if required
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must live within the Nottingham and Notts branch area
- Must be at home for the majority of the day (e.g. working from home, retired, or flexible schedule)
- Access to a car (essential for emergencies and transport if needed)
- Spare room available for fostering (especially if you have pets)
- If renting, landlord permission must be obtained
- Good understanding of cat behaviour (previous experience beneficial but not essential)
- Strong communication and basic record-keeping skills
- Willingness to follow RSPCA welfare policies and guidelines
- Home check required prior to approval
