Job Description: Beckenham Centre Manager/Director of Studies 2026
Location: Beckenham
Reports to: Academic Manager and ultimately Executive Director
Role description
As Centre Manager you will be responsible for student and group leader inductions, managing group leader/student issues whilst they are at the school and liaising with the Homestay Co-ordinator and Activities manager regarding the Experience programme at Beckenham. You will also be responsible for managing the staff roster for the centre .
The role of the Director of Studies is to organise, supervise, monitor and support the implementation of the academic programme. The Director of Studies is also involved with academic administration duties at centre.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To manage the delivery of the academic syllabus as prescribed
- To set up the teachers’ resource room and maintain teaching resources
- To manage student placement testing and subsequent class changes
- To timetable teachers appropriately according to strengths, skills, experience and preferences
- To update and post class registers
- To be responsible for managing the staff roster for the centre
· To monitor student attendance
- To be responsible for the supervision, guidance and monitoring of teaching staff
- To assist where necessary with lesson preparation and be available to teachers for academic support
- To provide regular lesson observation and feedback to teachers
- To provide academic workshops
· To monitor and counsel students on academic matters
· To issue end-of-week 1 and end-of-course feedback questionnaires and to ensure they are completed by all students
· To issue end-of-course certificates and special certificates for hard workers, and coordinate academic reports
· To liaise with the Activities Manager regarding the excursion programme to ensure students are prepared in class for excursions
· To coordinate group leader class observations
· In the event of staff sickness or emergency, to provide cover for absent teachers
· To teach when there are 15 students or fewer
- To ensure regular academic paperwork is kept up to date on Microsoft Teams
- To carry out administrative duties
· To coordinate academic social media (certificate presentations, class exhibitions, induction photos etc) and contribute to all social media activity for the centre
Duties and Responsibilities (Centre Manager):
· To work closely with the Beckenham Home-Stay coordinator and Beckenham Activities Manager to ensure a smooth operation
· To manage student induction
- To ensure that all staff adhere to the Kings child protection policy in the safeguarding and student welfare of all students at the centre
- To set the school in readiness for student intakes ( including managing student branded material,signage, notices, teachers room/office)
- To liaise with classroom provider as to classroom requirements on a weekly basis
- To liaise as necessary with Kings Central Office over administrative, welfare & HR, logistical and financial matters
- To maintain good morale among the teaching staff by holding regular meetings and reacting appropriately to staff comments, requests and concerns
- To oversee meetings with group leaders, ensuring maximum satisfaction for their groups
- To manage academic finances at centre efficiently including regular record keeping
· To liaise as necessary with external emergency services, such as police, fire service, ambulance service and hospitals, etc.

Person Specification (DOS)

Applicants must be able to demonstrate:
· DELTA / Trinity Diploma in TESOL / MA in ELT or Applied Linguistics or equivalent
· Proven organisational/administrative skills
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
· Flexibility and adaptability as regards working hours and duties
· Strong leadership qualities and the ability to inspire/enthuse others
- Ability to work well within a team
- Excellent references from previous employers
- Can-do attitude
- Excellent IT skills, especially in the use of Excel
Desirable attributes include (both roles):
- Valid clean driving licence
- Current First aid certificate
- Safeguarding Young People training or equivalent
- Experience using Microsoft Teams
Package:
- Dates : As soon as possible to Saturday 1st August 2026
- Salary : £750 per week + 12.07% of your gross pay will be added to final pay in lieu of holiday
- Hours of Work: 08.30 to 16.30 Monday and 08.30 to 14.30 Tuesday to Friday. Either Saturday or Sunday work helping with arrivals/departures max 4 hours usually.
