Waking Night Care Assistant
Reports to: Registered Manager, Deputy Manager and Senior Care Team
About the Role
We are looking for caring, compassionate and reliable Waking Night Care Assistants to join our dedicated team within a residential care home.
As a Waking Night Care Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring residents receive high-quality, person-centred care throughout the night. You will provide reassurance, promote independence and dignity, respond promptly to residents' needs, and help maintain a safe, comfortable and secure environment.
This role also includes completing a range of housekeeping and domestic duties during quieter periods to support the smooth running of the home.
Key ResponsibilitiesResident Care
- Deliver high-quality, person-centred care in accordance with individual care plans.
- Support residents with personal care, continence care, mobility, repositioning and other daily living activities where required.
- Provide comfort, reassurance and emotional support to residents who may be anxious or unsettled during the night.
- Promote dignity, privacy, choice and independence at all times.
- Assist residents to bed or with morning routines where required.
Medication
- Safely administer medication in accordance with company policies and current legislation (where appropriately trained and authorised).
- Complete all medication records accurately and report any concerns promptly.
Monitoring & Wellbeing
- Carry out regular welfare checks in line with individual care plans.
- Observe and report any changes in residents' physical or mental wellbeing.
- Escalate concerns appropriately and liaise with healthcare professionals where necessary.
Safety & Security
- Respond promptly to nurse call bells and emergency situations.
- Complete regular security and environmental checks throughout the home.
- Help maintain a safe environment for residents, visitors and colleagues.
- Follow safeguarding, infection prevention and health and safety procedures at all times.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate and timely care records.
- Record incidents, accidents and observations in line with company procedures.
- Provide clear and comprehensive handovers to the incoming shift.
Housekeeping Duties
During quieter periods overnight, assist with essential domestic duties, including:
- Laundry and ironing.
- Preparing breakfast items and drinks trolleys.
- Cleaning and tidying communal areas.
- Laying dining tables.
- General housekeeping tasks to support the day team.
Teamwork & Professionalism
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver outstanding care.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with GDPR and company policies.
- Attend mandatory training, supervisions and team meetings.
- Demonstrate a positive, professional attitude and act as a role model for high standards of care.
- Provide additional shift cover where reasonably required.

Essential
- A genuine passion for caring for older people.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently throughout the night while remaining part of a wider team.
Desirable
- Previous experience within residential, dementia or elderly care.
- NVQ/QCF Level 2 or Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or willingness to work towards this qualification).
- Experience administering medication (or willingness to complete training).
