This is a 4-bed mixed-gender children's home currently supporting three young people aged between 13 and 15 years old (1 girl and 2 boys). The young people are active and enjoy social activities, so we are seeking positive, engaging, and energetic individuals who can build meaningful relationships, encourage participation, and act as positive role models.
The young people may experience challenges relating to missing-from-home incidents, risks associated with criminal exploitation, emotional and mental health needs, and behaviours that can present as reserved or withdrawn. As a Residential Support Worker, you will play a key role in promoting safety, setting clear and consistent boundaries, building trust, and supporting young people to develop resilience, confidence, and independence through a trauma-informed approach.
Role Overview
As a Residential Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in the daily lives of Looked After Children, providing care, support, and guidance. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to create individualised care plans and implement therapeutic interventions. Your patience, empathy, and strong communication skills will help you manage challenging behaviours and support the children's emotional and developmental needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care and supervision to children with challenging behaviour and complex needs.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with the children, fostering a sense of trust and security.
- Implement and follow individualised care plans, ensuring the needs of each child are met.
- Manage and respond to challenging behaviour using appropriate strategies and interventions.
- Support children in their educational, social, and recreational activities.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with regulatory requirements.
- Participate in regular training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, external agencies, and families to ensure a holistic approach to care.
Shift Pattern
Shifts run from 07:30am to 10:30pm, followed by a compulsory sleep-in, with the shift ending at 07:30am the following morning.

Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience working with children or adults with complex needs and challenging behaviour.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
