Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-obsessed Paint Preparation Specialist to join our elite bodyshop team. In this role, you will be responsible for the foundational stage of our finish process—transforming bare metal and restored bodywork into pristine, flawless surfaces ready for topcoat application.
Working on rare, hand-shaped aluminum and steel panels across marques such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Jaguar, and Aston Martin, you will play a critical role in delivering the show-stopping aesthetic Lunaz is known for.
Key ResponsibilitiesSurface Preparation & Blocking
- Perform high-precision sanding, panel blocking, featheredging, and filler work to eliminate surface imperfections on hand-shaped classic panels.
- Work extensively with mixed-metal structures (hand-formed aluminum and steel coachwork) requiring specialized etching, primer selection, and anti-corrosion treatments.
- Apply and block high-build primers, guide coats, and epoxy barriers to achieve laser-straight panel alignment and reflection clarity.
Masking & Pre-Paint Detail
- Precision-mask exposed chassis components, EV battery integration points, bespoke trim, and high-voltage wiring paths to prevent overspray.
- Execute thorough panel cleaning, degreasing, and tacking prior to booth entry.
- Inspect bodywork under specialized lighting to spot sub-surface flaws before paint application.
Post-Paint Finishing & Quality Control
- Perform denibbing, wet sanding (color sanding), compounding, and multi-stage machine polishing to achieve concours glass-like finishes.
- Perform quality checks against Lunaz’s strict surface continuity standards before sign-off to assembly.
Workshop & Safety Operations
- Maintain a pristine, dust-free prep bay environment.
- Safely store, mix, and dispose of paint materials in compliance with COSHH regulations and environmental standards.
- Collaborate closely with coachbuilders, panelbeaters, and master painters to ensure seamless workflow across the restoration pipeline.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years in high-end restored body preparation, vehicle restoration, or luxury/bespoke coachbuilding.
- Technical Skill: Mastery of hand-blocking, guide coating, and substrate prep on both aluminum and steel.
- Precision: Deep understanding of panel gapping, body lines, and how light reflects across curved coachbuilt bodywork.
- Material Knowledge: Expertise with modern epoxy primers, etch primers, body fillers, and high-build coatings applied to vintage metals.
- Quality Mindset: Uncompromising attention to detail; high standard of pride in surface preparation.
- Desirable: Experience with vintage/classic British vehicles or ultra-luxury bespoke manufacturing.
