Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Kitchen Porter/Kitchen Assistant to support our culinary team in maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen environment. This role is vital in ensuring smooth food preparation and service operations within our establishment. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with basic food preparation, cleaning duties, and supporting kitchen staff as needed. Previous experience in a restaurant, hotel, or hospitality setting is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience within a professional culinary environment.
Duties
- Assist with basic food preparation tasks under supervision, including peeling, chopping, and organising ingredients
- Support chefs and kitchen staff with cooking and plating when required
- Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen areas, including washing dishes, utensils, pots, and pans
- Ensure all work surfaces are sanitised and organised in accordance with health and safety standards
- Help with waste disposal and recycling procedures to maintain a hygienic workspace
- Restock supplies and ingredients as needed to ensure smooth kitchen operations
- Support in setting up dining areas and clearing tables during service periods
- Follow all health and safety regulations diligently to ensure a safe working environment
Experience
- Previous experience in food preparation or kitchen assistance is desirable but not essential; training will be provided for those new to the hospitality industry
- Experience working in restaurants, hotels, or other hospitality environments is advantageous
- Familiarity with basic culinary techniques such as food handling and hygiene standards is beneficial
- A positive attitude towards teamwork and willingness to learn new skills are essential for success in this role
Additional Information
- This position includes working Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Sundays and some bank holidays but no evenings.
- The garden centre is located in a rural position 2 miles outside Newbury with no public transport links.
