The Lyceum is looking for an organised, efficient, and proactive individual to join us as a Maintenance Technician. As part of the maintenance team, the postholder will be responsible for the general maintenance of the Lyceum’s buildings, including the main Theatre Building on Grindlay Street, the Workshops and Costume Store in Roseburn, and the Offices and Rehearsal Rooms at Grindlay Street. To be successful in this role, you will have a sound working knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods, a strong attention to detail, and a proactive, positive approach to completing tasks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Carry out planned and reactive maintenance that does not require a specialist technician, including repairs to equipment and facilities, basic carpentry, flooring, plasterboarding, and painting. Communicate effectively with colleagues throughout and oversee contractors as directed by the Buildings Manager.
-Assist the Buildings Manager with alarm testing and other routine checks across all properties.
-Sign in contractors and issue permits as required.
-Ensure all Health and Safety requirements are adhered to, and report any issues promptly.
-Maintain accurate log records of all repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
-Provide out-of-hours on-call cover. This will include a rotating schedule covering Christmas, New Year, and Easter, as well as Buildings Manager holiday cover (up to 40 days per year) and additional cover during periods of illness if required. Respond to escalated emergencies from the contracted on-call security company.
-Provide holiday cover for selected aspects of the Buildings Manager’s responsibilities.
-Assist with the movement of furniture and equipment as directed by the Buildings Manager.
-Identify and report requirements for maintenance materials to the Buildings Manager, and order materials as instructed.
-Identify and report any repairs or defects requiring specialist attention.
-Report any issues identified across the properties to the Buildings Manager and address items on work request schedules as directed.
-Complete work requests as assigned by the Buildings Manager.
-Maintain awareness of budgets and costs, and inform the Buildings Manager promptly of any anticipated or unanticipated expenditure.
-Supervise apprentices where required, including training and assigning work.
-Undertake any other duties reasonably required by the Buildings Manager.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
A working knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods including experience in a variety of areas such as carpentry and painting
A basic understanding of electrical, mechanical and other systems
Ability to work under own initiative, and a ‘can do' attitude to get jobs done
Excellent communication skills
Attention to detail
Good knowledge of relevant H&S and Statutory Compliance regulations and legislation
Computer literate
Desirable
IOSH qualification or similar
Previous experience working in a trade
Active interest in the theatre
Pay: £12,628.57-£14,085.71 per year
