James Ray Recruitment are working with a firm seeking a dedicated and experienced Family Solicitor or Fee Earner to join their legal team. The role can be based at any of their offices across North and West Yorkshire. Up to 2 days per week can be worked from home.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of privately funded family law matters, including divorce, cohabitation disputes, financial remedy/ancillary relief and private children matters.
- Deliver high-quality legal advice and client care in accordance with firm procedures, quality standards and the Client Charter.
- Achieve agreed performance targets, including billing, time recording, aged debt and other KPIs.
- Progress client matters efficiently and accurately, keeping clients regularly updated on case progress and costs.
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of all client and firm documentation and information.
- Accurately maintain case records and utilise the firm’s case management systems effectively.
- Manage credit control and financial matters relating to own caseload, working closely with the Credit Control and Accounts teams.
- Ensure compliance with the Solicitors’ Accounts Rules, Solicitors’ Code of Conduct and relevant quality standards.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with external organisations, supporting marketing, business development and referral-generation initiatives.
- Take responsibility for personal performance and professional development, including participation in performance reviews and ongoing legal training.
- Keep up to date with changes and developments in family law and maintain professional competence.
- Supervise and support legal assistants through regular communication, performance reviews and development discussions.
- Promote the wellbeing and professional development of junior team members.
- Participate actively in departmental meetings, raising relevant issues and contributing positively to discussions.
- Contribute to a collaborative and positive working environment by upholding the firm’s professional values.
Experience
- Proven experience as a Family Solicitor or in a similar role within a reputable legal practice.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to listen effectively and communicate with clients and colleagues in an approachable, respectful and professional manner.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise and accurate correspondence while maintaining a professional tone and brand.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads, manage competing demands and use resources efficiently.
- Strong IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications and experience using case management systems such as Actionstep.
- Strong teamworking skills, with a positive and supportive approach to colleagues and a commitment to contributing to a collaborative and friendly working environment.
