Field Service Engineer — National Customer Base (Retford workshop)
Location: Retford with nationwide travel
Contract: Self-employed support work or temp-to-perm employed opportunity
Pay: Competency/skilled-based rates starting at £13.50 - £21 p/hr dependant on experience.
Hours: 7‑day service; flexibility required; overnight stays 1–2 nights per week
Overview
We are recruiting a multi‑skilled Field Service Engineer to support a national customer base. The role combines lone working on routine service calls with team collaboration on larger projects. You will carry out on‑site fault finding, repairs and preventative maintenance on process plant assets. In‑house training and ongoing support are provided to bridge any skills gaps.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, fault find and repair mechanical and related systems on process plant assets such as pumps and valves.
- Complete service, maintenance and minor workshop activities at the Retford base.
- Translate technical faults into clear, workable solutions and report findings.
- Work independently on single‑engineer jobs and join teams for larger installations or shutdowns.
- Maintain accurate job records and communicate with customers and the office.
- Be available for flexible shift patterns across a 7‑day service rota, including occasional overnight stays.
Person Specification
- Multi‑skilled engineering experience with a mechanical bias.
- Experience with process plant assets, homogenisers, pumps and valves is advantageous. As is integrity and calibration testing.
- Time‑served apprentices are welcome to apply.
- Proven ability to fault find and convert problems into practical solutions.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work alone and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel nationally and stay away 1–2 nights per week.
- Good communication skills and a professional approach to customer service.
Pay and Benefits
