Job Summary
We are ideally looking for someone for a fixed term of 3 months to cover a leave of absence, who may then transition to a Bank/Zero hours contract. We will also consider applications for zero hours contract only to provide cover for holidays and sickness absence.
Riverdale Grange Hospital provides a service to 9 adolescent and 9 adult patients who may be detained under Mental Health Act (1983).
The post-holder will be required to work as a Chef across the eating disorder service.
The post holder will provide a range of meals for patients, staff and visitors that are consistent and of a high standard taking into consideration patients’ dislikes, portion sizes and allergies. There is a need for awareness of security and patient issues.
Responsibilities
- To be responsible for the preparation, cooking and serving of hospital meals, snacks etc.
- To ensure that all precautions are taken with regard to food allergies
- To maintain a safe environment for patients and staff by following all relevant policies and procedures and reporting all potential risks or hazards, including equipment.
- To comply with Health & Safety, Food Safety and Hygiene legislation and practices
- To ensure that the kitchen environment is left in a clean, safe and hygienic state at the end of shift
- To communicate effectively with other members of the team
- To supervise the Kitchen Porter to ensure all jobs/tasks/checklists are completed in a timely way
Requirements
- Be responsible for the provision of patient meals and snacks in line with the Hospital’s agreed menus and snack lists or as instructed by the Nurse-in-Charge.
- Ensure that preparation, cooking and presentation of food is to the highest standard to meet patients’ dietary and nutritional requirements.
- Correct and accurate completion of all documentation required for the effective maintenance of the departments Hazard analysis and Critical Control point system (HACCP) i.e. Fridge temperatures, food temperature logs and cleaning schedules.
- Monitor deliveries for quantity, quality and correct temperature to ensure deliveries match original order and notify suppliers of any deficiencies.
- Ensure good stock rotation and storage to prevent food spoilage and waste.
- Be responsible for timely serving of patients’ meals and remain on site until the Nurse-in-Charge is satisfied that all patients are catered for.
- Assume overall responsibility for the kitchen throughout the entire shift and ensure that the Hospital Policies & Procedures are adhered to.
- Ensure that all equipment and materials are used and stored safely in compliance with COSHH.
- Attend shift in uniform, use protective clothing provided and wear suitable footwear.
- Participate as a full member of the team, e.g. supporting/training other staff, participating in team meetings, working flexibly as required to cover for other members of the team. This may, at times, require cover to assist facilitating annual leave for other members of the team.
Pay: £14.56 per hour
