Logistics Operative
Job Type: Full-time
Location: Rugeley
Salary: From £12.71 per hour / £26,436.80 per year
Hours: 40 hours per week
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Logistics Operative to take responsibility for the day-to-day movement and control of materials throughout our warehouse operation.
This is a hands-on role covering inbound logistics, warehouse organisation, stock movements, system transactions and outbound dispatch.
A key part of the role will be ensuring that materials are always moving efficiently through the operation and that the processing team has the stock, space and support required to maintain productivity.
The successful candidate should have previous forklift experience and be comfortable working independently, prioritising workloads and maintaining high standards of warehouse organisation and health & safety.
If you have previously held a Forklift Truck licence but have not completed a refresher within the last two years, refresher training will be provided by the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Loading and unloading delivery and collection vehicles.
- Accurately capturing and recording inbound material weights.
- Booking incoming goods into the warehouse management system.
- Creating and generating assets within the system where required.
- Moving inbound materials into the appropriate storage or processing locations.
- Storing pallets safely within warehouse racking using a forklift.
- Supplying and organising materials for the processing team.
- Proactively managing the warehouse floor to ensure goods continue moving through the operation.
- Moving completed materials away from processing areas and into the correct storage locations.
- Maintaining clear, organised and safe warehouse and processing areas.
- Picking and preparing customer orders.
- Checking picked orders for accuracy prior to dispatch.
- Generating dispatch notes and associated paperwork.
- Strapping, wrapping and preparing pallets for transport.
- Loading outbound collections and deliveries.
- Carrying out routine warehouse and racking health & safety checks.
- Reporting damaged equipment, unsafe conditions or stock discrepancies.
- Supporting stock checks and inventory control activities.
- Ensuring all physical stock movements are accurately reflected within the system.
- Working closely with the processing and operations teams to prevent bottlenecks and maintain an efficient flow of material.
About You
We are looking for someone who is organised, reliable and comfortable taking ownership of warehouse logistics rather than simply waiting for tasks to be assigned.
You should be able to look ahead, identify what needs moving or organising next and ensure that materials do not become unnecessarily held up within the operation.
Essential Requirements
- Previous Forklift Truck training/licence and practical forklift experience.
- Previous warehouse, logistics or material-handling experience.
- Experience loading and unloading vehicles.
- Confident using warehouse racking and material-handling equipment.
- Good attention to detail when recording weights, stock and system transactions.
- Comfortable using computers and warehouse/stock management systems.
- Good understanding of warehouse health & safety.
- Able to organise and prioritise multiple tasks throughout the working day.
- Physically capable of carrying out a hands-on warehouse role.
- Reliable and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Forklift Refresher Training: Candidates who have previously held a Forklift Truck licence but have not completed a refresher within the last two years will be provided with refresher training by the company.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within recycling, IT asset management, electronics or a similar material-processing environment.
- Previous experience with stock or asset management systems.
- Experience generating dispatch paperwork.
- Experience with pallet preparation, wrapping and strapping.
- Experience carrying out warehouse or racking safety checks.
What We Are Looking For
This role would suit someone who takes pride in running an organised warehouse and enjoys being the person who keeps an operation moving.
You will play an important role between Goods In, Processing, Storage and Dispatch, ensuring materials are in the right place at the right time and that both physical stock and system records remain accurate.
Pay: From £26,436.00 per year
