JOB TITLE: Health and Safety Officer - Galgorm Collection

REPORTING TO: Environmental, Safety & Compliance Manager
HOURS: Based 5 days out of 7, approx. 40 hours per week. Shifts primarily Monday–Friday; occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support inspections, audits and training
SALARY: £35,000 – £45,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
LOCATION: Galgorm, with regular travel required to other properties within Galgorm Collection, located in Belfast, Bangor, Limavady and Templepatrick.
About the role:
The Health & Safety Officer will play a key role within the Safety & Compliance Team, reporting to the Safety & Compliance Manager. Suited to an experienced individual ready to take greater ownership of Health & Safety delivery, compliance and supervision across Galgorm Collection.
You will take the lead on day-to-day Health & Safety operations across all properties, including risk management, incident investigation, training delivery and site inspections, while also providing supervisory support and guidance to the Safety & Compliance Administrator(s) and wider teams. You will work closely with the Safety & Compliance Manager and may be asked to deputise in their absence.
Job Description:
The main responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Supporting the Safety & Compliance Manager in delivering the Health & Safety strategy and associated KPIs across all properties within Galgorm Collection.
- Taking ownership of accident and incident reporting and investigation, including RIDDOR-reportable incidents, and preparing findings for the Safety & Compliance Manager and other stakeholders as required.
- Leading on the review, development and monitoring of Risk Assessments across departments, ensuring they remain current, accurate and legislatively compliant.
- Planning, delivering and recording relevant Health & Safety training (e.g. Induction, Fire Safety, Manual Handling, DSE) across the business.
- Carrying out and reporting on regular site inspections and audits across all properties, ensuring implementation of policies and procedures and following through on corrective actions.
- Driving the company’s Near Miss reporting procedures, analysing trends, preparing statistics and promoting engagement at departmental level.
- Assisting with management of the Safety & Compliance budget, including input on Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) requirements.
- Supporting the preparation, running and minuting of the monthly Health & Safety Committee meeting.
- Providing day-to-day supervision, guidance and support to the Safety & Compliance Administrator(s) and other team members.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date Health & Safety and GDPR records, including training records, in line with statutory requirements.
- Liaising with external contractors, statutory bodies (e.g. HSENI) and other stakeholders as required.
- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with managers and staff across Galgorm Collection.
- Undertaking any other duties as reasonably requested by the Safety & Compliance Manager.
Essential Criteria:
- Hold a NEBOSH National General Certificate (Level 3) or equivalent recognised Health & Safety qualification.
- Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role.
- Have experience working within a Health & Safety and/or compliance environment.
- Have a strong working knowledge of current UK/NI Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to train, influence and support others.
- Have strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
- Be competent in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Hold a full, clean driving licence with access to own transport, due to travel required between properties.
- Be able to demonstrate discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
Desirable Criteria
- Hold, or are working towards, a NEBOSH Diploma or NEBOSH National General Certificate Level 5.
- Are a member, or working towards membership, of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
- Have previous experience working within a hospitality or leisure environment.
- Have knowledge or experience of GDPR and data protection practices.
- Are educated to degree level in a Health & Safety, Environmental or related discipline.
