The Head Housekeeper will lead, manage, and deliver the housekeeping function at Moorpark House, ensuring that all residential, communal, therapeutic, and office areas are maintained to an exceptionally high standard of cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation. The post holder will manage the housekeeping team, oversee linen and laundry services, and ensure full compliance with infection prevention and control requirements, COSHH regulations, and the Care Inspectorate's quality standards relating to the physical environment. A clean, comfortable, and dignified living environment is a fundamental aspect of person-centred care and therapeutic recovery, and the Head Housekeeper will champion this ethos.
- Plan, organise, and oversee the daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning programme for all areas of Moorpark House, includingservice user bedrooms, en-suite facilities, communal lounges, dining areas, therapy rooms, corridors, offices, and external areas.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor a comprehensive written cleaning schedule, assigning tasks to team members and ensuring completion to required standards.
- Conduct regular quality checks and audits of all areas, recording findings and implementing corrective actions as required.
- Manage the linen and laundry service, ensuring timely provision of clean, hygienic linen, towels, clothing support, and therapeutic room textiles in accordance with infection control guidelines.
- Maintain and manage stock of cleaning materials, consumables, and linen, ensuring adequate supplies, accurate ordering, and compliance with budget parameters.
- Lead the housekeeping team's implementation of the organisation's Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Policy, in line with Health Protection Scotland (HPS) guidance and the Scottish Infection Prevention and Control Education Pathway (SICPEP).
- Ensure appropriate decontamination procedures are followed for bodily fluid spillages, isolation of areas where required, and management of clinical and non-clinical waste.
- Liaise with the clinical team regarding infection risk and adapt cleaning protocols accordingly during periods of heightened infection risk or outbreak.
- Maintain accurate IPC records including cleaning audit logs, outbreak records, and equipment decontamination certificates.
- Ensure all cleaning chemicals are used, stored, labelled, and disposed of in full compliance with COSHH Regulations 2002 and manufacturer instructions.
- Maintain an up-to-date COSHH inventory and risk assessments for all chemical products used within the housekeeping function.
- Conduct and record risk assessments for all housekeeping activities, including lone working, manual handling, working at height (step ladders), and wet floor hazards.
- Ensure all team members use correct PPE at all times and that PPE is maintained, replaced, and correctly stored.
- Report all maintenance, repair, and facilities defects to the Registered Manager promptly, maintaining a defect log.
- Recruit, induct, supervise, and appraise Housekeeping team members in line with organisational HR policies.
- Provide regular formal and informal supervision to team members, identifying training needs and supporting professional development.
- Ensure all Housekeeping team members complete mandatory training including: COSHH, Manual Handling, InfectionPrevention and Control, Adult Support and Protection Awareness, Fire Safety, and Equality and Diversity.
- Manage housekeeping rotas, annual leave, and sickness absence in accordance with organisational policy.
- Ensure all housekeeping activities respect the privacy, dignity, and confidentiality of service users, obtaining consent before entering bedrooms and personal areas.
- Train and role-model respectful, person-centred interactions with service users for all housekeeping staff, recognising that daily domestic contact contributes to a sense of safety and wellbeing.
- Promptly report any safeguarding concerns, changes in service user presentation, or unusual observations to the clinical team or Registered Manager.
- Contribute to the therapeutic and recovery-focused atmosphere of Moorpark House through the presentation, decoration, and homely feel of the environment.
- Contribute to Care Inspectorate self-evaluation and inspection readiness, ensuring the environment consistently meetsthe requirements of the Care Inspectorate's quality indicators for environment and wellbeing.
- Participate in organisational audits, contribute to significant event reviews relating to the environment (e.g. falls, infection outbreaks), and implement improvement actions.
- Maintain all housekeeping records in a manner suitable for inspection at any time.
Pay: £26,000.00 per year
