Job Overview
We are looking for a Composite Fitter to join a rapidly growing business operating within the defence and aerospace sector. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a company with strong growth plans and clear opportunities for career development over the next 2–3 years.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the manufacture and assembly of composite components, working with honeycomb core structures and aerospace-grade bonding processes. The role requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work to tight tolerances using tools, jigs, and fixtures.
Responsibilities
- Manufacture and assemble composite components incorporating honeycomb core materials.
- Carry out adhesive bonding operations, primarily using structural adhesive.
- Prepare components and bonding surfaces in line with approved procedures.
- Trim, fettle, and finish composite parts using hand tools and power tools.
- Use jigs, fixtures, and tooling to achieve precision tolerances.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, and technical specifications.
- Perform in-process self-inspection to ensure parts meet quality and dimensional requirements.
- Maintain accurate production and quality records.
- Work in accordance with health, safety, and quality standards expected within a defence and aerospace environment.
- Any other duties as reasonably required.
Skills & Experience
- Experience as a Composite Fitter or in a related manufacturing or engineering role
- Practical experience working with composite materials and honeycomb core structures is desirable
- Experience with structural adhesive bonding, ideally aerospace-approved adhesives such as 3M 9323
- Competent in trimming, drilling, and finishing components to tight tolerances
- Confident using hand tools, power tools, jigs, and fixtures
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and follow detailed work instructions
- Strong attention to detail and a quality-focused mindset
Transferable Experience Considered
Candidates with experience in other relevant engineering industries will be considered, including but not limited to:
- Automotive manufacturing
- Sheet metal work
- Precision fabrication or assembly
- Aerospace sub-assembly or structures
