SITE LABOURER – LONG-TERM PROJECT

The role:
We are looking for a reliable and hardworking site labourer to support our trades throughout a full HMO conversion project in Luton.
This is a long-term position on one site. You will work alongside our carpenters, multi-trades and specialist subcontractors, helping keep materials, work areas and the overall programme moving efficiently.
You must be comfortable working in an active refurbishment environment and understand that keeping the site clean, organised and safe is an important part of the job.
What you will be doing:
- Controlled demolition and moving materials
- Assisting with the controlled dismantling of chimney breasts, internal masonry and other identified elements.
- Removing bricks, rubble and demolition waste safely and loading it into skips.
- Using basic demolition tools and breakers where trained, competent and instructed.
- Installing dust protection and helping keep demolition areas isolated and controlled.
- Moving tools and stored items between work areas.
- Carrying and distributing timber, plasterboard, flooring, insulation and other building materials.
- Using team lifts or suitable lifting equipment for heavy or awkward items.
- Protecting floors, walls, stairs and doorways while items are being moved.
- Supporting the trades
- Assisting carpenters, dryliners, plumbers and other trades.
- Carrying, holding, measuring and cutting materials when instructed.
- Preparing fixings, tools and materials for each work area.
- Mixing mortar, adhesive, plaster and other materials.
- Helping install insulation, boards, timber and basic non-certificated items under supervision.
- Assisting with kitchen, bathroom and flooring preparation.
- Site preparation and clearance
- Protecting retained floors, walls, windows and finished surfaces.
- Carefully removing waste and non-structural materials when instructed.
- Sweeping, vacuuming and maintaining dust control.
- Loading skips and separating waste correctly.
- Keeping access routes, stairs and working areas clear.
- Completing end-of-day site cleaning and securing materials.
Contract details
Location: One site in Luton, LU1. No travelling between jobs.
Duration: Approximately five months, with the possibility of further work on future projects.
Start: Immediate start, expected late August or early September 2026.
Hours: Full-time, normally Monday to Friday, approximately 9:00am to 5:30pm.
Payment: Fortnightly through the agreed PAYE or approved subcontractor arrangement.
We are a growing construction contractor with additional work planned after this project. If you are reliable, work safely and support the team properly, there may be an opportunity for continuing work
Requirements
- Previous construction
- site labouring experience.
- Experience working on refurbishments, conversions or occupied buildings preferred.
- Physically capable of safely moving construction materials.
- Good understanding of basic site safety.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Able to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Able to travel reliably to the Luton site each working day.
Useful but not essential:
- HMO, student accommodation or residential refurbishment experience.
- Basic carpentry or drylining experience.
- Manual-handling, asbestos-awareness or other relevant training.
- CSCS card.
- Experience using basic hand and power tools safely.
Pay: £12.71 per hour
