General Manager – Passmonds House Care Home, Rochdale
£45,000–£50,000 basic, depending on experience, plus an annual KPI-based bonus of up to £10,000
Full-time | Permanent | Site-based
The opportunity
Passmonds House is an established 35-bed residential care home in Rochdale with a Registered Manager, Deputy Manager and care team already in place.
We are looking for a commercially driven General Manager to lead the home’s relaunch, grow appropriate occupancy and improve its operational and financial performance.
You will provide senior leadership to the existing Registered Manager, who will continue to lead day-to-day regulated care, while you take ownership of business development, occupancy, marketing and operational transformation. You will report directly to the owners.
This is a hands-on delivery role. We want someone who implements change personally and is judged on results—not someone who only advises.
What you’ll do
- Build and deliver a relaunch and occupancy-growth plan;
- Reposition and market Passmonds House within the local care market;
- Lead the development of the home’s digital presence, social-media activity and online marketing—either directly or through appropriately managed external support;
- Ensure marketing activity is measured against enquiries, conversion and admissions;
- Build relationships with commissioners, social workers, hospital-discharge teams, healthcare professionals and private-referral sources;
- Improve enquiry handling and enquiry-to-admission conversion;
- Review referral sources, fee levels and placement mix;
- Set clear management targets and strengthen performance reporting;
- Lead and develop the existing management structure;
- Improve workforce stability and operating efficiency;
- Identify, develop and implement agreed opportunities for specialist provision, including mental health, complex needs or rehabilitation, where viable; and
- Report against agreed occupancy, income, workforce, quality and financial KPIs.
The Registered Manager will retain responsibility for ensuring that proposed admissions can be supported safely and within the home’s registration and capabilities.
What you’ll bring
- Substantial care-sector management experience;
- A track record of personally delivering occupancy growth, business improvement or operational turnaround—not merely recommending it;
- Experience relaunching or repositioning a care service;
- Evidence of successfully developing commissioner and referral relationships;
- Strong financial and operational judgement, with the ability to interpret and act on occupancy, fee, staffing and cost information;
- Experience leading managers and teams through significant change; and
- A hands-on leadership style with personal accountability for delivery.
Experience in mental-health, complex-needs or rehabilitation services would be a strong advantage.
Formal qualifications or demonstrable practical experience in marketing, business development, digital marketing or social media would be an additional advantage. This could include developing campaigns personally or successfully managing external marketing support, with evidence that activity generated awareness, enquiries or admissions.
Knowledge of the Rochdale and wider Greater Manchester care market, together with established local commissioner, professional or community relationships, would be particularly valuable.
Who this may suit
- A successful Registered Manager ready to progress into a broader commercial and strategic role; or
- An experienced Regional, Area or Operations Manager seeking a stable senior single-site role without extensive travel.
What’s on offer
- Basic salary of £45,000–£50,000, depending on experience;
- Annual performance-related bonus of up to £10,000 based on clearly agreed KPIs;
- Genuine autonomy to implement agreed changes;
- An established Registered Manager and Deputy Manager team;
- Direct access to and support from the owners;
- Consideration of appropriate investment supported by a viable business case; and
- Scope for wider responsibility as the role develops.
Performance measures will balance appropriate occupancy and sustainable financial improvement with workforce stability, care quality, safeguarding and regulatory compliance.
