Are you organised, accurate and committed to delivering excellent customer service? We are looking for a Business Rates Officer to join our Revenues and Benefits team, helping to maintain and safeguard the Councils’ Business Rates base and ensure businesses receive clear, timely and professional support.
This is a varied and important role where you will establish liability, issue accurate bills, deal with collection and enforcement activity, and provide advice to businesses on valuation matters, reliefs and exemptions. You will also process Valuation Office schedules, maintain accurate Business Rates and Council Tax records, and support the administration of Business Improvement Districts across West Devon.
You will have experience of working in a Revenues environment, with a good working knowledge of Business Rates legislation, best practice and the enforcement process. You will be confident dealing with customers, including in difficult circumstances, and be able to explain complex information clearly and professionally.
We are looking for someone who is accurate, calm under pressure and able to prioritise work effectively to meet deadlines and performance targets. You will be a committed team player who can also work on your own initiative, with strong communication skills and confidence in using ICT, Microsoft applications and specialist systems.
