Assistant Manager - Independent Pub / Restaurant
The Dovecote Inn – Laxton, Nottinghamshire
Job Type: Full-time, Part- time, Permanent
Salary: £14.50 per hour + tips
About Us
Located in the historic village of Laxton, The Dovecote Inn is a busy country pub. Beyond our day-to-day food and drink service, we run an active event calendar, including regular mid-week Bike Nights, large-scale 'Dovey Drive In' car shows, and monthly pub quizzes.
We focus on proper hospitality, high-quality pub classics with a difference, and a great atmosphere. We are now looking for an experienced, highly reliable Assistant Manager to take charge of the day-to-day operations and lead our front-of-house team.
The Role
This is a floor-based role, with room for training and progression. Working alongside the General Manager, you will have a high level of autonomy on the floor, taking ownership of daily shifts, managing busy food services, and keeping back-of-house operations organised.
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily Operations: Oversee the bar and restaurant floor, ensuring seamless shift operations, speed of service, and high standards of cleanliness.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, shift-manage, and train front-of-house staff, keeping the team motivated and accountable.
- Event Execution: Confidently run high-volume shifts during our car shows, bike nights, and busy weekend food rushes.
- Cellar & Stock Control: Maintain the cellar (ensuring excellent pint quality), manage stock rotation, and assist with ordering.
- Compliance: Ensure full adherence to food safety, health and safety, and licensing laws on a daily basis.
- Customer Service: Handle bookings, enquiries, and guest feedback professionally.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven Experience: Previous supervisory or assistant management experience in a busy, food-led pub or hospitality venue is essential. You should be comfortable running a floor independently.
- Work Ethic: A proactive, hands on attitude, someone who leads by example during peak service times.
- Skills: Strong organizational skills, reliable decision-making, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Flexibility: Available to work a flexible rota including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
- Transport: Due to our rural location, independent transport is highly recommended.
