About our service
Our centre provides a safe, supportive environment in which parenting capacity can be assessed when directed by the courts. We aim to help families remain together safely wherever possible and reduce the number of children entering Local Authority care.
The families we support may have a range of complex needs and experiences, including learning needs, domestic abuse, substance or alcohol misuse, mental ill-health and previous trauma.
Our centre accommodates up to four families in individual family suites. During their stay, parents receive therapeutic support from FAASS staff while their parenting capacity is assessed by our qualified social work assessors.
Our approach is supportive, compassionate and strengths-based. Through guidance, role modelling, key-work sessions and practical advice, we help parents develop safer routines, healthy boundaries and the skills they need to care for their children.
The service operates 24 hours a day, so you will work a varied rota that includes sleep-in shifts.
About the role
As a Therapeutic Family Support Worker, you will support families experiencing complex challenges at a time when they need intensive, round-the-clock guidance.
You will be a positive and consistent role model, helping parents build their confidence and develop practical parenting skills through encouragement, teaching and modelling. You will also contribute to family assessments by making careful observations, maintaining accurate records and working closely with colleagues and social workers.
Your work will include:
- Supporting families according to their individual placement and assessment plans
- Offering practical advice and assistance with the care, development and nurturing of babies and children
- Delivering agreed parenting interventions and helping parents put new skills into practice
- Helping parents establish safe routines, appropriate boundaries and positive relationships
- Supporting families to resolve conflict and manage behaviour safely and appropriately
- Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults
- Completing accurate records and written reports to a high standard before the end of each shift
About you

- Hold a Level 3 qualification in Children’s Residential Childcare, or an equivalent qualification, or be willing to work towards one
- Be willing to learn, develop and go the extra mile for the families we support
- Be available to work shifts according to the staff rota, including sleep-ins
