Procurement Officer
Location: Kirkby-in-Ashfield, NG17 8GJ
Are you an organised, commercially minded procurement professional who enjoys building strong supplier relationships and making a real impact? We’re looking for a proactive Procurement Officer to join Van Elle, the UK’s largest and most diverse geotechnical and ground engineering contractor. This is a great opportunity to play a key role in supporting smart, efficient purchasing across a growing business.
What you'll be doing:
- Purchase goods, materials, components and services in line with cost, quality and delivery targets.
- Work closely with internal teams and suppliers to keep purchasing activity running smoothly and resolve any supply, quality, delivery or invoice queries.
- Build and maintain positive supplier relationships, supporting a professional and consistent approach across all supplier interactions.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing and terms of business, identifying opportunities to achieve savings and add value.
- Monitor market trends, supplier performance and potential risks or opportunities, sharing insights with the Procurement Manager.
- Prepare and raise purchase orders, order schedules, reports and updates as required.
- Support continuous improvement within the procurement function, contributing ideas that improve efficiency, cost control and business performance.
- Research new suppliers and components, compile supplier performance data and contribute to supplier reviews.
- Follow company purchasing, health, safety and environmental policies, helping to maintain a safe and compliant working environment.
- Act in line with Van Elle’s values and support the wider team with any reasonable tasks required.
Who we're looking for:
- Experience working in a purchasing or procurement team, ideally within manufacturing, concrete, construction or a similar environment.
- A CIPS qualification, similar procurement qualification or current study towards CIPS would be beneficial.
- Good understanding of purchasing processes, negotiation, cost breakdowns and commercial decision-making.
- Confidence working with suppliers and building effective relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and external partners.
- Strong communication, negotiation, interpersonal and influencing skills.
- An analytical mindset, good numerical skills and the ability to solve problems confidently.
- The ability to manage time effectively, prioritise tasks and work well under pressure when needed.
- A collaborative, proactive approach with a genuine interest in improving ways of working.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, integrity and professionalism.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel and company systems such as EVision.
Other Requirements:
- Eligibility to work and live in the UK.
- Flexibility to travel within the UK when required.
- A full UK-valid driving licence would be helpful, but is not essential.
